MATH CURRICULUM REVIEW November 7, 2022
Todays Outcomes - Review Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices Framework to use as a lens for exploring textbooks - Review the 8 Mathematical Practices to use as a lens for exploring textbooks - Review the Shifts in research-informed, standards-aligned, teaching and learning that came with 2011 and then 2017 Kansas Common-Core Math Standards - Explore some textbooks - Make plans to explore again if needed
Lets Review - Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices Framework - 8 Mathematical Practices
Lets Review - The Shifts from the 2011 and then 2017 Kansas Common-Core Math Standards - Focus deeply on what is emphasized in the standards, so that students gain strong foundations. - Coherence connects learning within and/or across grades. - Rigor provides equal intensity in time, activities and resources in the pursuit of: - Conceptual Understanding An ability to demonstrate understanding of concepts from one or more perspectives. - Fluency skill in carrying out procedures flexibly, accurately, efficiently and appropriately - Application Independent use of appropriate concepts and procedures in real world situations. - Student Discourse - Provides opportunities for student dialogue about mathematical thinking - Promotes students creating justifications and/or generalizations
