
Exploring Elements of Fiction and Nonfiction in a Literature Class
Students engage in activities throughout the week centered around reading and comparing fiction and nonfiction pieces, defining terms, and answering comprehension questions. Week Ending 9/21/2019 Elements of Fiction and Nonfiction
Monday: 9/17/2018 Objective: Students will read a piece of fiction and nonfiction and be able to compare and contrast the two pieces of writing. They will be able to define terms and answer comprehension questions related to both pieces of writing. Classwork: Monday: Activity #1: All students will copy the terms and definitions for fiction and nonfiction found on pages 4 and 5 in the Prentice Hall Literature Book in the note taking section of your 5 subject notebook. Do Now: Answer the question: Is there truth in fiction? Explain your answer. Ticket Out: Name your favorite piece of fiction that you have read. Homework: Vocabulary Words 20 Lesson 1A . Write each word 3xs each, give the part of speech, definition, synonym, antonym and a sentence for each. Due Thursday 9/20/2018
Tuesday: 9/18/2018 Objective: Students will read a piece of fiction and nonfiction and be able to compare and contrast the two pieces of writing. They will be able to define terms and answer comprehension questions related to both pieces of writing. Classwork: Tuesday Activity #2: Begin to read The Three Century Woman by Richard Peck Prentice Hall Book p. 7- 14 Do Now: Read page 6 in the Prentice Hall Literature Book. Write down two facts Richard Peck talks about writing a piece of nonfiction. Ticket Out: Name a nonfiction piece that you have read that is your favorite. Homework: Vocabulary Words 20 Lesson 1A . Write each word 3xs each, give the part of speech, definition, synonym, antonym and a sentence for each. Due 9/20/18
