  2. STANDARDS SS6G6 Describe the influence of environmental issues in Canada. a. Describe the causes and effects of pollution and acid rain in Canada and the Great Lakes. b. Explain the cause and effect impact of the extraction of natural resources on the Canadian Shield (e.g., mining and logging). SS6H2 Explain Quebec s independence movement.

  3. STANDARDS SS6G4 Find specific features of Canada. a. Locate on a map the St. Lawrence River, Hudson Bay, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, the Great Lakes, Canadian Shield, and Rocky Mountains. b. Find Canada and the province of Quebec on a map. SS6G5 Tell the effect of location, climate, distribution of natural resources, and population distribution on Canada. a. Tell how Canada s location, climate, and natural resources impact trade and affect where people live

  4. MONDAY FEBRUARY 10, 2020 Brief video about what would happen if Quebec left Canada Paragraph on how Quebec got its independence from Canada Handout in groups about the brief history of Canada- with use of Chp 10 section 2 of the book No Homework * I will be out on Monday due to an emergency

  5. TUESDAY FEBRUARY 11 2020 Warm-Up: Journal Topic:Why might the Canadian growing season force Canadians to import different foods? Class Activity (Groups) Students will list the physical features pointed out in the section. They should describe the relative location of each. Then have them choose three features and explain their importance to the people of Canada. Students will brainstorm regulations or paths that might help ease the effects of acid rain on Canada s physical environment. Ticket Out The door regulations and laws to ease the effects of acid rain

  6. WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 12 2020 Warm-Up: Journal Topic:Have students write a paragraph describing actions an individual in Canada can take to help solve the pollution of the Great Lakes. Class Activity (Groups) Each group will be assigned a province or territory. They will write five major descriptions of the physical features of that province or territory and then write two descriptions of the climate(s) of the province or territory. Homework: Students will find out more about the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. They will see many beautiful images of them on the Internet. Have them write a description of the Northern Lights in poetry or prose.

  7. THURSDAY FEBRUARY 13 2020 Warm-Up Journal Topic: Explain in writing the effects of diseases on the native population. Why is this a common theme in European colonization? Group Activity: Have students create a poster celebrating the 151st anniversary of Canada. Students will draw and decorate a totem pole. On the back of their picture, instruct students to explain the role the totem pole plays in native culture. Homework: Extra Credit Opportunity available on Teams. Pick one of the research activities or essays. Research Activity worth replacing your lowest formative assessment grade and essays are worth 15 extra points on your lowest grade.
