What are tactile materials? oMaterials created for use by touch oTypically created for images, charts, graphs oUMW has used tactile materials for Chemistry, Greek Architecture, and Chinese courses oCan be low tech
Student Process oStudent works with Assistive Technology Coordinator (ATC) and Professors to learn what materials will be needed in a tactile format oStudent and ATC work together to figure out what format would be best based on materials needed. oATC works with professors to obtain materials in best format and to understand most important details oATC processes tactile materials
Creation Process oTech involved? oLow tech puffy paint (draw), pipe cleaners (shape), legos (build) oHigh tech swell machine, thermoform machine, braille embosser (software required), 3D Printer oSwell uses special swell paper, run through machine that heats up black ink and creates tactile. oBraille Embosser (SpotDot) create document within software (TactileView) and emboss.
