GREEK SONG MELIC SONG CHORIC SONG
THE MELIC AND CHORIC SONGS THE MELIC OR THE LYRIC SONG WAS SUNG BY A SINGLE VOICE TO THE ACCOMPANIMENT OF A LYRE. THE CHORIC SONG WAS INTENDED FOR COLLECTIVE SINGING TO THE ACCOMPANIMENT OF INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LYRIC IT IS AN EXPRESSION OF A SINGLE EMOTION. IT IS A SUBJECTIVE POEM. IT IS A MUSICAL COMPOSITION. LYRICS ARE UNRIVALLED FOR THEIR WORD-MUSIC OR VERBAL MELODY. IT IS A WELL KNIT POEM WITH A DEFINITE STRUCTURE.
THE STRUCTURE OF A LYRIC THE LYRIC CAN BE DIVIDED INTO THREE DISTINCT PARTS: 1. THE MOTIVE OR THE EMOTION WHICH SET THE BALL ROLLING. 2. THE THOUGHTS SUGGESTED BY THE EMOTION. 3. THE LAST STANZA WHICH USUALLY MARKS THE POET S RETURN TO HIS INITIAL MOOD, THE MOOD OF REASON.UNLIKE THE FIRST TWO PARTS, THE CLOSING PART TENDS TO BE INTELLECTUAL IN CHARACTER, EMBODYING,OFTEN, A JUDGEMENT, A POINTED SUMMARY, AND ENDING WITH A PARTING SMILE OR SIGH.
Robert Frosts Design I found a dimpled spider, fat and white, On a white heal-all, holding up a moth Like a white piece of rigid satin cloth-- Assorted characters of death and blight Mixed ready to begin the morning right, Like the ingredients of a witches' broth- A snow-drop spider, a flower like a froth, And dead wings carried like a paper kite.'
What had that flower to do with being white, The wayside blue and innocent heal-all? What brought the kindred spider to that height, Then steered the white moth thither in the night? What but design of darkness to appall?- If design govern in a thing so small.'
The lyric is origin of the Song, the Sonnet and the Ode.
