What shall we conclude then? Do we have any advantage? Not at all! For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin. As it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one. Romans 3: 9-12 NIV
Their throats are open graves; their tongues practise deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes. Romans 3: 13-18 NIV
But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3: 19-20 NIV
God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. Romans 3: 25-26 NIV
The Universality of Sin If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us. 1 John 1:9 When they sin against you for there is no one who does not sin and you become angry with them and if they turn back to you with all their heart and soul then from heaven, your dwelling-place, hear their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause. 1 Kings 8:46-49
Gods Anger Against Sin Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Habakkuk 1:13 Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; Exodus 34:7 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. Romans 2:5
Gods mercy To Sinners The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Exodus 34:6-7 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9
Propitiation: Just and Justifier How can we reconcile all of these things? If God is angry at sin and punishes sin, and all have sinned, how is it that God forgives and welcomes anyone? How can a good and just God let people into heaven?
