  4. Listen to your favourite pop song. Write down what you think the meaning behind it is.

  5. Pop music is a genre (a style) of popular music that originated in its modern forms in the US and the UK during the mid-1950s. Pop music produces the most hits and sells many copies! The latest hits are listed every week in the charts. To get on the charts, a song must be released as a single but most singles are also released on an album.

  6. Pop music generally uses: simple, memorable melodies emphasised rhythms syncopation (off beat rhythm) basic riffs or loops which repeat throughout the song. Pop songs usually have a verse and a chorus, each with different musical material, as well as a bridge connecting them.

  7. Can you name examples of pop artists and some of their songs. Write this down on the sheet accompanying this slide..

  8. Research about a pop artist that you like. Look at their songs, do they inspire you to sing along with them or even write your own song? You can do your project on a computer or you can make your own booklet have fun!
