FACTS Design
A deep dive into comprehending problem-solving software as a product versus a process in relation to literacy gains. Explore the life cycle of a plant and the essential requirements for plant growth. Examine different forms of discourse and the role of symbols in communication through decoding and encoding processes.

Comprehending: As a Process vs. As a Product Comprehending as a product is almost difficult to understand how problem solving software can have literacy gains. Comprehending as a process is possible to understand how problem-solving software can lead to improved literacy.
Comprehending as a PRODUCT Science: Life cycle of a plant A life cycle shows how a living thing grows and changes. While plants life cycles are continuous, the life of a plant begins with the seed. For a plant to grow, plants need sunlight, water, the right temperature conditions, and a safe place. Plants adapt in different ways to get the things they need to survive. An indoor plant near a window will bend toward the light. Many plants in shady places will grow larger leaves to maximize the amount of sunlight it receives. Plants that live in dry places will grow longer roots to find water deep below. Seeds will lie dormant until the right conditions arise. Question: What do plants need to grow?

Literacy and Discourse Forms Discourse identifies different relations between the sender of messages, the receiver of messages and the topic. Example: V S
Using different discourses in classroom
Communicating with Symbols Decoding- Process of translating symbolized information into experience and thought. Encoding- Process of translating experience and thought into symbolized form.
