  1. CI405 ORIENTATION Fall 2021 WELCOME! Title Come in, make a nametag, and find a seat. We will start with an activity, so don t get too settled just yet!

  3. ICEBREAKER Morning Meeting: What/Why/How Title Greeting Activity

  4. GREETING Small-to-Tall Silent Line-Up Title Without speaking, line up from shortest to tallest. You have two minutes. When the line is finished, make a circle. Go around the circle. One person states their name, the group responds, Good morning, X.

  5. ACTIVITY Four Corners PLUS Clock Partners Question 1:What is your favorite music streaming platform? Title Red: Apple Music Yellow: Spotify Blue: YouTube Music Green: Other Find a partner in your group. Write your partner s name on the quarter-past line.(That s the 3, fyi!)

  6. ACTIVITY Four Corners PLUS Clock Partners Question 2:What was your favorite special in elementary school? Title Red: Music Yellow: Art Blue: PE Green: Dance/Drama Find a partner in your group. Write your partner s name on the half-past line.(That s the 6, fyi!)

  7. ACTIVITY Four Corners PLUS Clock Partners Question 3: What s your ideal vacation environment? Title Red: Beach/Waterfront Yellow: Mountains Blue: Forest Green: Desert Find a partner in your group. Write your partner s name on the quarter- til line.(That s the 9, fyi!)

  8. ACTIVITY Four Corners PLUS Clock Partners Question 4: Is it ok to abbreviate the word inspiration to inspo? Title Red: Never. How annoying! Yellow: Yes! If you don t use the word inspo, are you even inspo- ing??? Blue: Never say it outloud, but definitely in writing on your socials! Green: Ummmm .I have no idea what you re even talking about! Find a partner in your group. Write your partner s name on the hour line. (That s the 12, fyi!)

  9. ACTIVITY Four Corners PLUS Clock Partners Title Find your quarter-past clock partner. Introduce yourself! Tell them your name, hometown, and something fun you did over the summer!

  10. DEBRIEF! How did the greeting make you feel? How about the activity? Title How might these greetings/activities make your students feel? What if a student doesn t want to join? Consider the strength of relationships in your classroom when planning these activities. For example, would you have students shaking hands on Day 1? Probably not.

  11. THE PLACEMENT (take notes on the back of your clock paper!) Three hours per week all semester long Title Week 1 Week 15 No placement during Fall Break or finals week 45 hours clocked by the end of the semester Wide range of locations and types of schools

  12. PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR YOUR REPUTATION STARTS ON DAY 1!!! Title Clean up your social meeting settings (PRIVATE) Punctuality (10 minutes early is right on time!) Communication (Be respectful of time) Dress (Business casual and very modest!)

  13. THE PORTAL https://cote.illinois.edu/cote-portal-access Title Student teaching application Trainings Hours ESL hours: ASK: Does this school have an ESL program? Do you have ESL students in your class? Is there an ESL teacher in the building? Would it be possible for me to meet this person? Your coop or the ESL teacher will write you a letter at the end of the semester to verify your hours working with ESL students and using ESL strategies. You will submit this to CoTE for approval.

  14. THE WEBSITE https://sce.education.illinois.edu/ Title This is where you find the observation form that you will send to your coop to fill out.

  15. EXPECTATIONS Present yourself in a positive and professional manner Title Show up on time, plan to introduce yourself to your students, and be an active participant in the classroom. Don t spend your time sitting in the back! That s boring! Communicate with your coop about assignments and observations in a timely manner If you need to be absent, let your coop know and make a plan to make up the hours Ask questions! Have fun! Learn a lot!

  16. CLOSING ACTIVITY Find your half hour partner. Introduce yourself and share: Title Placement Grade level How you re feeling about the semester If you have a question about the information presented today, see if your partner can answer it.
