Family Engagement Centers and Literacy Support Network Hubs
Grant funding of $14 million over 4 years has been allocated to develop a system of support for educators working with families through Family Engagement Centers and Literacy Support Network Hubs. The purpose is to enhance literacy skills, promote equity, and offer professional development opportunities from birth to 5th grade. Requirements include participation in monthly meetings and adherence to the MiFamily Engagement Framework.

35i Grant $14 million over 4 years Applicants ISD Consortia of ISDs Competitive grant $350,000 per year
Purpose of the Grant Development of a system of support for educators/providers working with families Launching activities, including, but not limited to, training, coaching, technical assistance, resource development, and online learning modules Supporting compensation and required travel for coordinators and coaches of the MiFamily Engagement Centers. Allocating $120,000 each year over the next 4 years to build on the existing infrastructure and continue the work of the established Literacy Support Network Hubs in the region. 2/21/2025 www.michigan.gov/mde 4
Literacy Hubs Started with PDG B-5 funding 10 regional hubs to offer birth-5th grade (previously B-5) literacy professional development, coaching, and program support. Promote equity, effectiveness, sustainability, and measurability for programming and initiatives in their local regions and communities. Increase community-based support for birth to 5th grade literacy across the state and mitigate disparities in access to research-based, culturally relevant opportunities. Application Requirements Not to exceed 20 pages in length Emphasis should be on completeness and clarity of content 11-point Verdana Font. All pages must be numbered Relevant support documents may be attached to the application and will not count against the page limit, but must be kept to a maximum of five pages each Screenshots, figures, tables, etc. may be included but must be easily readable. Completed applications must be submitted via email to MiLEAP-MiFamily@michigan.gov

Grant Budget/Payment Submit 4-year budget summary with 1-year detailed budget Carryover is allowed through 2027 Campaign funds must be spent by September 30, 2024 Funds will be distributed through SAMS (State Aid Management System) 11 monthly payments each year First payment will include retro pay back to October
Statewide Campaign Not required $2 million to share how parents can support early literacy for children B-5th grade Expand parental knowledge Raise awareness of GSC/FC, before and after school programs Build upon work of Literacy Hubs Additional 5 application questions Funding must be spent by September 30, 2024 2/21/2025 www.michigan.gov/mde 13
Grant Review Process All applications will be evaluated using a peer review system Applications will be reviewed, and points assigned according to the rubric included Only those applications that meet all the identified criteria and are in compliance with submission requirements will be considered All funding will be subject to approval by Department. All applicants will be notified of the Department s final decision.
