Goal is/was to have the FDR in May this year What is expected for the FDR ? Email sent to Stephen R. replied with document describing the modus operandi of the review office (docdb 5005) Along with the design, a fully developed plan for ensuring the quality of production and the procedures used to validate the reliability of the manufacturing and assembly techniques should be presented for review. This plan is expected to have been exercised on some of the prototype components. At the time of the final-design review, it is expected that the inspection and other test procedures have been designed and exercised on some prototypes.
Documentation expected for a final-design review 1. Specification document. (Calibration note) 2. Final prototypes built and successfully tested to demonstrate functionality that meets the specifications. (Mock-ups) 3. Final design of the item(s). 4. A presentation of the final design, including draft production drawings, schematics, P&IDs as appropriate; changes in the design since the last prototypes produced should be explicitly identified. 5. Experience from tests of final prototypes and earlier ones if helpful, covering performance, reliability and any other relevant aspects. 6. Evidence of satisfactory radioactivity levels. 7. A preliminary version of the production plan including cleaning and protection procedures 8. Measures taken to ensure reliability, and the preliminary quality control plan for production testing, as well as the test infrastructure should be ready and should have been exercised on some of the prototype components. 9. The preliminary procurement plan for pre-production and production, including the rejection and acceptance criteria. 10. Documentation describing all interfaces. 11. A compliance report with the relevant electrical and mechanical standards. For the mechanics a structural analysis. 100% 50-80% 0-50% Not applicable
Where do we stand regarding the design of the calibration system ? Google doc to list the things to do toward the final system grouped within topics: Validation tests with mock-ups 3D and 2D CAD (fabrication plans) Installation on the cryostat Integration at LNGS Spares etc Surely not all the points have to be addressed for the FDR Clearly we have many (final) pieces in our hands and the mock-up tests have been extremely useful to converge on the final design. But
Are there key decisions not yet taken or key elements not yet designed/finalized ? The tube diameter is pending. The first tests with the scale 1 mock-up didn t allow us to take a decision. The routing of the tubes seemed frozen but it recently had to be modified a bit (cryostat penetrations slightly moved). Also the tests with the big mock-up showed what seems to be an important impact of the several bends. Can this induce a second (or 14th) thought on the routing ? The glove box has not been finalized. The current version was drawn by Marco C. more than 2 years ago. Jelena has money to subcontract the fabrication. What about the finalization of the design and its interfaces with the motor box and the tube ? The way to supply the gaseous nitrogen to the tubes has not been discussed yet (type of entries, valves, ect; see google doc) The way to insert and fix the sources have not been finalized The final integration has been described (in the note thanks to the CAD from Marco) but some aspects (e.g: installation of the cryostat) have to be detailed NB: at CPPM, we put most of our efforts on the design and tests of the mock-ups. It will be difficult for us to take the charge of some elements.
