Features of the Ode: 1) It is serious and dignified composition. 2) It is often in the form of an address. 3) It is exalted in subject matter. 4) Its expression is elaborate ,impressive and diffuse. 5) It is often addressed directly the being o r object. 6) It has for its theme an important public event.

  3. FORMS A) THE DORIAN ODE: IT IS NAMED AFTER THE DISTRICT AND DIALECT IN W HICH IT AROSE. IT IS ALSO CALLED THE PINDARIC ODE. IT IS CALLED SO IT WAS BRILLIANTLY USED BY THE GREEK POET PINDER .

  4. B) The Lesbian Ode: It is named after the island of the Lesbos. It is called Horacian Ode because it was used by the poet Horace. The Lesbian ode is simpler in form, the treatment is direct and dignified. The style is sober and stately. It has thee Parts: The Strophe The Anti-Strophe The Epode
