Introduce Yourself Tom Vlasic Graduated from High School in Ocean Springs, Mississippi Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York Master of Science in Software Engineering from National University in San Diego, CA Thank the teacher for inviting you to speak with his or her students. 28 years in the US Navy, trained as a Naval Flight Officer but one of my jobs was DSCA Watch Officer I used the training I received in the Navy to become a Planning Specialist for FEMA for a couple years where I deployed to disasters in MN and CT I still do disaster relief with FEMA but as part of a VSO, Team Rubicon I use all of my STEM training in order to help plan the best responses to disasters As a DSCA Watch Officer As a FEMA Planning Specialist As a VSO response manager I enjoy helping people, protecting their property and getting them back on their feet.
FEMA Since 1979, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been the Federal Government s lead agency in responding to and recovering from many of the Nation s greatest moments of crisis. FEMA isn t a stand-alone agency though. They work with SLTT Governments, other Federal Agencies and NGO s to train, prepare AND respond! Hurricane Harvey Just in Texas Over a dozen Federal Agencies : FEMA, USCG, USACE, EPA, DOE Over 300 NGO s: Red Cross, AmeriCorps, Team Rubicon 82 Aircraft, 75 boats, 29 cutters, 122k+ rescues, 210k pounds of hay, 25 tons of pet food!

Extension until 25 November 2018 Expected Outcomes HMGP mission is to provide financial assistance to eligible applicants to: Prevent or reduce future losses to lives and property through the identification and funding of cost-effective mitigation measures.
