Your safety and wellbeing is our number one priority if you think you personally will find this challenging to complete, please ensure that you speak to a trusted adult and email Miss Colmer for some alternative work. Task 3: Fertility Treatments - Choices 1. Read through the information on BBC Bitesize here and make notes on what different fertility treatments are available. Make a grid of arguments for and against different fertility treatments, using the information on page 2 of the above BBC Bitesize website. Read the definition of surrogacy on slide 4 and complete the tasks on the slide. If someone believed in the Sanctity of Life, which fertility treatments might they agree or disagree with and why? Task 4: Saviour Siblings 2. Task 1: Intro and Sanctity of Life 3. 1. Research what Medical and Ethics mean. Using these definitions, in your own words explain what Medical Ethics means. The Sanctity of Life is the belief that Life is a gift from God and therefore very precious. God grants life, and therefore only God should take it away . Read the information here and make notes on the Sanctity of Life. How might believing this impact a person s view on medical procedures? Explain your answer. Complete the task on slide 2. You will need to copy out the diagram and add the additional petals (like the example in red writing) to the flower, showing which quote matches up with which beliefs. Task 2: Fertility Treatments intro 4. 2. A saviour sibling is a child conceived by IVF with pre-implantation genetic diagnosis to save the life of an incurably ill sibling through the use of the core blood. 1. Watch the news report here. It is a real life example of a saviour sibling. Make a note of any arguments that you can think of to support the idea of saviour siblings, as well as any view against. 2. If you have access to a copy of My Sister s Keeper, you could watch it and answer the questions in the document here. 3. Do you think that having a child to save another child is the right thing to do? Explain your views. 3. 4. 1. Create a mind map to answer the following question: What do you already know about the topic of fertility treatments? You could consider: What is Fertility Treatment ? Why might a couple need to have fertility treatments? What fertility treatments are available? 2. Read the information on slide 3. Add anything to your mind map that you did not already know. 3. What fertility treatments do you already know of? Make a list of any that you have heard of before Task 5: Abortion Complete the Oak National Academy lesson here on abortion. You do not need to do the starter quiz. Remember to stay safe when doing research online. If you see something that worries you, speak to a trusted adult (parent/teacher). If you need help with any of the tasks, or if you have completed them, please email Miss Colmer for feedback on colmer-rachael@Mayfield.portsmouth.sch.uk
