  5. Archival Curation Archival Curation Project Project A project to curate archival materials hosted in the Special Collections Room of Frederick Douglass Library started in June 2020. In February 2021, we formed a reading and research group focused on exploring newly accessible archival materials.

  6. The Faculty The Faculty Reading Circle Reading Circle The Center for Teaching Excellence initiated the Faculty Reading Circle Program to encourage inter-disciplinary interactions. We started as a Faculty Reading Circle in Spring 2021, but we didn t stop after the program ended. We are now the UMES History Project.

  7. The Pandemic The Pandemic Isolated by the pandemic, we felt the need for connection. Video conferencing tools such as Collaborate Ultra and Google Meet enabled us to meet remotely. Our collaboration might not have materialized in pre- pandemic conditions.

  9. Focused Focused We chose to explore in detail extant course catalogs from the 1930s and 1940s. We looked for information or stories left out of official narratives of our institution s past.

  10. Cross Cross- - Referenced Referenced We searched ProQuest Historical Newspapers for references to our institution (which was known as Princess Anne College in the 1930s and 40s and as Maryland State College in the 1950s and 60s).

  11. Shared Shared We collaborated with other campus entities (such as the local chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and the Center for Teaching Excellence) to hold virtual events. We invited students to serve as panelists or moderators.

  12. Our Ongoing Mission Our Ongoing Mission Identify and enlarge spaces for story telling.
