  2. What is Fluoride Naturally occurring mineral 13thmost abundant element in Earth s crust The stuff they put in water and toothpaste Proven to help prevent cavities Helps with bone density Found to stimulate new bone formation

  3. Fluoride Toxicity Dental Fluorosis in children under 9 White streaks, brown stains, or pitting of tooth enamel Skeletal Fluorosis Bones become brittle, joints stiffen, and mobility impaired. Acute Toxicity Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and other more severe symptoms Studies are being conducted on the effects of Fluoride on the brain Oxidative Stress in brain tissue damaging neurons and brain function Kidney Damage Renal tubular damage, causing increased Fluoride retention

  4. Fluoride Levels in the Water Max Contaminant Level (MCL) CA 2.0mg/L EPA 4.0 Pinon Pines Running Averages Well 5 2.3 mg/L Well 6 1.9 mg/L Avg 2.5 mg/L Well 7 3.2 mg/L

  5. Whats Being Done Fluoride Mitigation Project 2004 Application Process Began State Revolving Fund (SRF) Construction Funds Application (CFA) 2008 SRF Processed Prop 84 for Grant Funding 2009 CFA converted to Planning Funds Application (PFA)

  8. What Does That Do for Us Demolition of 2 Old Storage Tanks Construction of 1 Larger Storage Tank Drilling of a New Well Construction of a Blending Facility

  9. Where Are We in the Project 2 Storage Tanks Demolished 1 Larger Storage Tank Built 1 Blending Tank Built 1 Well Drilled Most of the Pipes Are in Ground and Ready

  10. What is Left to Do Blending Facility Building Construction Pipe Connections from Wells to Blending Facility Pump Installation inside Blending Facility Pipe Connection from Blending Facility to Distribution System New Well Pump Installation New Well Building Construction Electrical Line Installation and Motor Control Center Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Install

  11. Blending Facility Tank Footprint 176.6 ft Dimensions D = 15 and H = 19 3 Safety Railing above Tank Capacity ~22,000 Gallons 1/3 Daily Winter Usage 1/6 Daily Summer Usage

  12. Blending Facility Building Footprint 640 ft (32x20) Three-Car Garages Range 600 ft to 864 ft 2-40Hp Booster Pumps 70 dB (vacuum) to 90 dB (lawnmower) Building is Insulated will lower dB outside the building

  13. Blending Facility Building Are the Pumps Going to Run All Day!? NO Wells and Pumps Run 8 am 4 pm Unless the tanks fall below 70% capacity (Safety) Are There Plans to Beautify the Facility? Yes (nothing definitive yet) PPMWC and the HOA will work together after the project is completed to see what can be done. Is the Blending Tank Going to Stay Red? No The tank will be painted an off-white Almond color The Red is a protective coating for the welding
