  2. What is Forces AVENIR? Forces AVENIR is a grant program that aims to recognize the commitment, creativity and leadership of students and student projects that have an impact on their community and the world. The Program highlights university students who distinguish themselves, either individually or in groups, by carrying out projects that help to improve our society. Forces AVENIR enables students to showcase their ideas, talents and knowledge.

  3. Description of Individual Categories Personality AVENIR Undergraduate Awards will be presented to undergraduate students who have distinguished themselves through a balance of academic, personal and social achievements, as well as by their leadership, the concrete impact of their engagement and consistency in all the specified criteria throughout their studies. Personality AVENIR Graduate Awards will be presented to a graduate student who has achieved distinction through a balance of academic, personal and social achievements, as well as leadership, the concrete impact of their engagement, and consistency in all the specified criteria throughout their studies. Personality AVENIR Perseverant Recognized a student who has made efforts and developed strategies throughout their entire life in order to overcome challenges, nourish their motivation, experience successes, get into university and succeed in their academic studies

McGill Internal Selection Committee Winners announced at Gala Specialist Jury Project Grand Jury Arts Environment Health Business Peace & Justice Science Society 1 Par Excellence winner, chosen from among the 7 winning projects Project Categories 3 finalists in each category 1 winner announced for each category 2 applications per category 2 winners announced Undergraduate 2 candidates 6 finalists Personality Categories 1 Par Excellence winner, chosen from among the 12 total finalists 1 winner announced Graduate 2 candidates 3 finalists 1 winner announced Perseverant 2 candidates 3 finalists

Application Period Students have until Tuesday March 31st 2020 to OPEN an application If you are missing files or need more time, McGill will allow applicants to modify their applications until Tuesday April 14th at 9am. This includes the submission of reference letters. McGill will submit our nominations to Forces AVENIR by April 22nd Please note that we will only be contacting the projects/individuals we will be nominating.

  8. Criteria for Project Categories The project must not be carried out as part of a university undergraduate programworth more than 3 credits The project must not take place in context of a course or a research program which is part of the requirements for obtaining a graduate degree The project must be initiated, made operational or be carried out during the period of eligibility (1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020) The project must not have already received a Forces AVENIR university award in the Project AVENIR category At least 80% of the students involved in the project must meet the criteria of the personality category Essentially, full time student under the age of 35

Criteria for Personality Categories (Undergraduate, Graduate, Perseverant) Be registered as full-time students (or recognized by McGill as such) for at least one semester during the period of eligibility (1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020) Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program Not have been paid to participate in project Be no more than 35 years of age on March 31, 2020 Not be former recipients of a Forces AVENIR university award in the Personality AVENIR category

Application content for Project Categories 200 word summary of the project 1200 word presentation explaining how the project meets each & every criteria for selection Three (3) letters of recommendation supporting the application Ten (10) colour photographs of the project and its members A press review (optional but reccomended)

Application content for Undergraduate & Graduate Personality Categories 200 word summary of student s educational path & involvement 1200 word presentation explaining how the candidate meets each & every criteria for selection 750 word (max.) essay in answer to the question: Based on your engagement and your studies, how do you perceive your role as a citizen in the society of the future? A detailed curriculum vitae Transcripts for all university studies Three (3) letters of recommendation Ten (10) colour photographs of the candidate bearing witness to his/her/their involvement

Application content for Perseverant Personality Category 200 word summary of student s educational path & involvement 1200 word presentation explaining how the candidate meets each & every criteria for selection 750 word (max.) essay in answer to the question: Based on your life path and your training, how do you view your role as a citizen in the society of tomorrow? A detailed curriculum vitae Transcripts for all university studies Three (3) letters of recommendation Ten (10) colour photographs of the candidate bearing witness to his/her/their involvement

  13. Frequently Asked Questions Everything on the website is French can I submit in English? YES, they will accept both English and French applications I won t be in Montreal/Canada in May/June for the finalist interviews what do I do? Finalists are able to perform interview over phone or videoconference When is the absolute deadline to change an application? At 9am on Tuesday April 14th we will print out all the applications, and no subsequent changes will be considered by our internal selection committee Who is the internal selection committee? The Interim Dean of Students, Director of CaPS, Director of Sustainability, a SSMU Rep, past winners, and department specific representatives Can my action photos include other people in them? Yes, but to broadcast (on website, at Gala, etc) the photos, FA must have the consent of all the people in the photos Who should the letters of support come from? From FA: A person of influence giving weight to their application Where can I get my transcript? You can print out your unofficial transcript on Minerva Do I also need to include my CEGEP transcript? No, only transcripts from your university studies are required

  14. Frequently Asked Questions Cont I transferred to McGill from another University do I need to submit those transcripts as well? Yes, please submit all transcripts from all your university studies Can someone from McGill look over my application and make suggestions? Due to the high number of applicants, McGill cannot provide any personalized feedback on applications Can I apply for both the Personality Category and as a member of one the Project Categories? YES, you may apply for both in the same year. However, ensure you are not simply submitting the same information twice. Do I have any commitments if I win/am a finalist? There is a Gala in QC City in September/October for all finalists, their family & friends, and various members of Universities If I really need an extension on the deadline, can I get one? No the deadlines are put in place by the organization, and we have no say in moving them. Can my reference upload my letter of recommendation directly to my application portal? Unfortunately, they cannot upload documents to your application file on your behalf. They must send you the letters, and you will upload them. If your references have concerns with this, please have them email our office. How many people usually apply (within McGill)? For personality categories anywhere from 10 to 20. Depends on Project Categories Health & Science are by far most popular.
