  1. Strand B1: Language Lessons Phase 1 Following One-Step Directions Phase 2 Following Two-Step Directions Phase 3 Finding Items When Requested Use the navigation tabs to select your phase. See the lesson plan for instructional information.

  2. Teaching Time: Getting Ready Using Reinforcement o Reinforcement must be motivating! Provide choices, give small bites of edibles, follow the student s lead, and use a variety of reinforcers (tickling, singing, and gross motor movements included). o Reinforcement must only be given after desired behaviors. When needed, limit attention to off-task behaviors. o Reinforcement must be immediate and often in order to teach new behaviors.

Teaching Time: Getting Ready Using Consistent Language: Tell the student what To Do Give commands ONE time then use gestures or prompting to help the student follow the command Common commands "Come here Walk with me Sit down Hands down Look at me Gross motor actions Do this Clapping hands Raising hands Thumbs up Nodding yes Nodding no After the student has followed these commands (with or without prompting) give reinforcement *Practice in the beginning of the session, if needed. Intersperse in all lessons.

  4. Teaching Time: Language Phase 1: Following One-Step Directions One-step directions: sit down, stand up, clap hands, stack blocks, open book 1. Give a one-step direction. Say, "X [direction]." o "Stand up." 2. If the student responds correctly, label the action (e.g. "Standing up!") and provide reinforcement. 3. If the student responds incorrectly: o Repeat the cue o Help them perform the action o Label the action o Give them a high five

If the student responds incorrectly: o Repeat the cue o Help them point to the correct letter o Label the letter o Give them a high five
