  1. Future Accelerator Workshop Franco Bedeschi RD_FA workshop, Roma3 Novembre 2016 Outline Workshop goals Deadlines and goals 2017 Organization 1 Workshop RD_FA, Roma3, Novembre 2016 F. Bedeschi, INFN-Pisa

  2. Introduction Worldwide interest on future accelerators! Major work at CERN on FCC-ee and FCC-hh Intense activity in China on CepC and SppC ILC in Japan not yet discarded New ideas on muon colliders and plasma acceleration KITP Program: New Accelerators for the 21st Century S. Barbara: May 31 - Jun 19, 2016 N. Arkani-Hamed,N. Craig, D. Gross, J. Incandela, M. Mangano, L. Wang RD_FA INFN role in these internazional contexts CepC CDR end of 2017 UE strategy update ~ 2019 2 Workshop RD_FA, Roma3, Novembre 2016 F. Bedeschi, INFN-Pisa

  3. Workshop goals Main topic is how to organize a realistic and useful simulation effort Define theory benchmarks Define machine backgrounds Define common software tools Define what detectors we want to study Inform groups on R&D plans and developments Prepare CSN1 discussion (tomorrow) Define goals and milestones for next year Organize efforts Common simulation work Improve WP definintion 3 Workshop RD_FA, Roma3, Novembre 2016 F. Bedeschi, INFN-Pisa

  4. Simulation deadlines 2017 Immediate: 1st FCC physics workshop - 16-20 January, 2017, CERN IAS Program on High Energy Physics, Hong Kong 23-26 January 2017 Participate, but not obvious we can contribute much. Could show what we have started to do to coordinate with international efforts. Medium term: Workshop on CepC/SppC, Beijing April 2017 TBD FCC week - 29 May - 2 June 2017, Berlin, Germany EIC user group meeting, Trieste, 18-22 July 2017, Italy Should have some results ready on these occasions to prove we are real! Longer term: Workshop on CepC/SppC, Beijing September 2017 TBD Other CERN FCC meetings toward end of 2017 Some results in form to be included in Chinese CDR + other polished results 4 Workshop RD_FA, Roma3, Novembre 2016 F. Bedeschi, INFN-Pisa

  5. R&D deadlines 2017 WP plans should be consolidated Especially those with funding requests to CSN1 Generic R&D clear goals in 2017 Aim to present results in international meetings WP leaders should discuss possibilities along these lines 5 Workshop RD_FA, Roma3, Novembre 2016 F. Bedeschi, INFN-Pisa

  6. Organization (1) Simulation Need core group to simulate physics (event generation) Need core group for detector simulation Almost everyone can do studies on final root Ntples It s critical to have core groups of experts which support this effort WP Born in rather anarchic bottom up way Can/should we rationalize/merge some WP? Single institute WP don t look good with management Should confirm WP coordinators 6 Workshop RD_FA, Roma3, Novembre 2016 F. Bedeschi, INFN-Pisa

  7. Organization (2) RD_FA related events 2017 2 collaboration meetings/workshops 1 before Berlin FCC week April May 1 before Nov/Dec CSN1 late October How long? WEB site Great for publicity and to disseminate information Always hard to find volunteers! Any available? 7 Workshop RD_FA, Roma3, Novembre 2016 F. Bedeschi, INFN-Pisa

  8. Discussion All I said is open for discussion. Do not be shy! We need to come out f this workshop with a plan Let s start! 8 Workshop RD_FA, Roma3, Novembre 2016 F. Bedeschi, INFN-Pisa
