  19. (Text 1) M Our backyard is such a waste to be used as a storage place. I was thinking of turning it into a garden. What do you think about that? W How about a swimming pool? I do enjoy swimming in summer. (Text 2) M I think green is good on me. Do you have a green one for this shirt? W I'll check. But to tell you the truth, I think this color makes you look younger.

  20. (Text 3) M Good afternoon. What's the matter? W I'm afraid I'm not feeling well. I had a pretty high fever this morning. (Text 4) W Waiter, please serve me another beefsteak. M OK, I'll wait for your call. (Text 6) W Why are you so interested in the history class? M Our history teacher Mr Zhang is really humorous. W Really? 27. (Text 10) All right, everyone. Thank you for coming today. As you all know, we're here to celebrate the career of Maurice Jones. Mr Jones joined the company three decades ago. He worked in the mail room after he finished high school, and he got promoted to office manager after a few months because he was so well organized. He stayed in that position for a year and a half, at which point he demanded that the company pay for him to get his degree while he continued to work. This had never happened here at Bradley & Cooper before, but Mr Jones drives a hard bargain, as you all know so well! Mr Jones took night classes so he could remain on the team full-time, and his hard work and devotion to learning made him a perfect candidate for a management position.

  28. Mr Jones continued to move up the ladder here, becoming the vice president of operations just five years ago. Mr Jones will most definitely be missed. We will all remember his warm smile and strong will to succeed. I think everyone could learn a thing or two from Mr Jones, including me. I've been with this company from the very beginning almost 40 years and I can tell you that this is one special man right here. Congratulations for making it all the way to retirement! Let's give Mr Jones the microphone now so he can say a few words ...

  29. . Sophia Vicky S Hello.I'm Sophia, a reporter. There are various kinds of jobs in the world, such as writing, nursing, teaching and engineering. 1 This is because everyone has his own interest. Today I'm very glad to interview a college student about her dream job. Hello, Vicky. What is your dream job, if you could have any job in the future? V My ideal is to be an English teacher in a primary school. S: 2

  30. V I choose to do so mainly for some reasons.Firstly, I want to teach because I like the pace of academic calendar. Two long vacations offer me an opportunity for reflection, research and writing. Secondly, I like the freedom to stimulate myself and my students. And I can have the opportunity to keep on learning. Finally, I want to teach because of being around the students who are beginning to grow and change in front of me. 3 But teaching is no easy job at all, so I must study cleverly to obtain more knowledge. And at the same time I will make every effort to purity my soul so that I can become an architect of man's soul. S 4

  31. V: During my college years, I have worked very hard at my major courses, so as to lay a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge. Of course I passed the teacher qualification examination and obtained the teacher qualification certificate. S Did you have any experiences teaching in primary school? V Yes I did. 5 During the time, I tried my best to use all the teaching methodologies I learned at school to reach each child. Stories, poems, riddles, jokes and songs are all good for little kids. I will have them practice English as a whole, so that my students like me very much. S Thank you very much for your interview.

  35. . Chinese people love food made of flour, whether it be dumplings, or flatbread. In the hands of skilled artisans, flour is made into lovely models of people or animals to be enjoyed and played with, which brings a unique kind of pleasure. This art form is called dough figurine ( ). Among the various art styles of dough figurines, Beijing's Dough Figurine Lang is a unique folk art, which is filled with the rich history and customs of the capital city. Their delicate and lovely handicrafts are storytellers of old and new Beijing. In 2008, it was included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage.

  36. It was created by Lang Shao'an. Most of the dough figurines are animals and characters from legends, historical stories, and local operas. The finished product is either put at the end of a thin stick, or on a table for display. Some are mostly for children to eat or play with, with simple forms and vivid decorations, while some are delicate pieces of artwork for display only. For this reason, during the making process, they are often mixed with additives ( ) to prevent them from breaking up, being eaten by insects or growing moldy. Over the course of his long career, Lang Shao'an developed a set of skilled fingers with an elegant artistic sense.

  37. Lang Jiaziyu, born in 1995, is the third-generation inheritor of Dough Figurine Lang. When he was 15, he created Beijing Olympic Mascot-shaped dough figurines which were highly praised. He looks a bit more fashionable than other folk artisans. In his skilled hands, pop culture icons such as figures based on Marvel comics characters and Chinese mythological figure Nezha with smoky makeup, are resonating with young people. Like most of the other intangible cultural heritage handicrafts in China, Dough Figurine Lang does not get as much attention from the public. Many young people are unwilling to take the time to master a skill that does not make money, which has led to a decline in the number of those who are devoted to the handicraft. Good handicrafts need the devotion of artisans from one generation to another.

  38. Questions 1 Why do artisans add additives to dough figurines? To better preserve the finished products. ____________________________________ 2 What is the main purpose of the passage? To appeal to people to value this folk art. ____________________________________

  41. . It was the day of the big cross-country run. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route ( ) through thick evergreen forest. I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn't with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run.

  42. What was wrong? He had worked so hard for this event! I quickly searched the crowd for the school's coach and asked him what had happened. I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him he explained uncomfortably. I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide. I bit back my frustration ( ). I knew the coach meant well he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward.

  43. David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer that's all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination.

  44. 1. 150 2 Paragraph 1 We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn't look at me. Paragraph 2 I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners.

  45. Paragraph 1 We sat down next to each other and quietly No one can change your mind, except yourself. If you desire to but David wouldn't look at me. I said gently challenge yourself, there is nothing to do with others' thoughts. He sat still with a deep breath. You have a full preparation before this event, which is the most important reason why you show up here. I added with a sincere tone.Hearing my words David turned to me with tears spilling out of his eyes and expressed he had made a firm determination to finish the cross-country run. His coach heard what David said and gave me a look the kind that was more determined than anyone else's.

  46. Paragraph 2 I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. The race started. It seemed that the runway was extremely long for young children, not to mention a child with a brain disease. David insisted on running as if he had forgotten all his weaknesses, though he was tripped over within a few kilometers. It didn't take long before he picked himself up again and continued his mission. Classmates all appeared on the racing track, cheering for him. Come on! You can make it! We are proud of you they shouted enthusiastically. To everyone's joy, he reached the final line and ranked the 20th. It was no more important whether he won the first place or not. It was his brave heart and strong faith that could make something unusual happen finally.
