Future Tense (will) Writing Clinic Duration: 45 minutes
NOTICING TASK Direction: Read the dialogue below and answer the questions. Hello. I m Tom and my hobby is travelling. I travelled to many far places like Tunisia, Maldives, India and Japan. Next year, I will travel to France! Once there, I'm going to take many pictures of the Eiffel Tower, with me in the picture of course. Questions: 1. Where will Tom travel next year? 2. What does he plan to do when he is in France?
Usage 1 & 2 1. WILL is used to express a voluntary action. Will often suggests that a speaker will do something voluntarily: Example: I will get you a cup of tea. 2. WILL is used to express a promise.Will is usually used in promises. Example: I promise I will visit you this weekend.
Usage 3 & 4 3. Going to is used to express a plan in the future. Example: I m going to be a teacher when I grow up. 4. Will or going to can both be used to express a prediction. Both will and going to can express the idea of a general prediction in the future. Example: The year 2222 will be a very interesting year. The year 2222 is going to be a very interesting year.
Will (Affirmative, Negative & Questions) Will has the following affirmative,negative and question (interrogative) structures: I will study medicine when I finish high school. AFF: Will + verb in infinitive NEG: Will + not + verb in infinitive / Won't + verb in infinitive I won't (will+not) waste my time. Will you be my first patient? INT: Will + subject + verb in infinitive...?
Going to (Affirmative, Negative & Questions) Going to has the following affirmative,negative and question (interrogative) structures: She's going to study for her exam. AFF: am/is/are + going to + verb in infinitive NEG: am/is/are + not + going to + verb in infinitive She isn't (is+not) going to play computer games. INT: am/is/are + subject + going to + verb in infinitive...? Is she going to get good marks?
