Measurement and Data 5. Geometry -89 24 113 Students will receive additional support during daily, math intervention activities. The intervention groups are determined using a variety of data sources. Math Assessments: Pre-assessments, check-in tests, end-of-module tests, fact tests, journal work, teacher observations, I-Ready testing, and Smarter Balance.
Science: Students will explore different science concepts using inquiry-based curriculum kits: Rocks & Minerals- students will explore the differences and similarities between rocks and minerals by investigating samples of these earth materials, performing a series of tests similar to geologists' field tests, and reading about rocks and minerals and how they are used. Water- Students will learn about the unique properties of water. Students will also explore and analyze water through the scientific processes of evaporation, condensation, freezing, and heating. Science Assessments: Journal prompts, student explanation sheets, teacher observations, end of unit assessments.
Social Studies: Students will explore different, social studies concepts: 1. Tier 2: Students require strategic support to increase their decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills, using appropriate texts. Tier 3: Students require intensive support. Students will work with RtI teachers, and focus on areas of need using appropriate texts. Language Arts Assessments: bi-weekly assessments (comprehension, written response & vocabulary), phonics tests, written and oral response scores, I-Ready, DIBELS, and Smarter Balance).
Classroom Procedures Gallaher is a Positive Behavior Support (P.B.S.) school. Students earn Panther Paws by following the P.A.W.S. principals of the school: Practice problem solving Act responsibly Win respect Show kindness Students can use their Panther Paws to participate in monthly celebrations, visit the P.B.S cart, and cash out in the classroom. * Class dojo points are being counted as panther dollars remotely.
Leader in me Leader in Me (LiM) is an evidence-based, comprehensive- school improvement model developed in partnership with educators that empowers students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. Each day we will focus on a habit to work on for school and home. This is a PROCESS not a program
REPORT CARDS With a new strategic plan and a renewed commitment to coming together for excellence, the Christina School District is uses a standards-based grading approach in kindergarten through grade 5. The K-5 report card will provide a more accurate view of a student s progress in academic and behavioral areas. Factors like responsibility, participation, effort and attendance are reported separately, and not as an indicator of a student s academic performance. We are using a 1,2,3,4 rating scale
REPORT CARDS ALIGNMENT Fully aligns with Common Core Standards in ELA and Math, Next Generation Science Standards and Social Studies State Standards GRADE SPECIFIC Unique to the grade and standards of that grade MORE OBJECTIVE More objective evaluation according to grade-level standards CLEAR TARGETS Communicates how students are performing on a set of clearly defined learning targets called standards MORE ACCURATE Separates academic progress and learner behaviors CONSISTENT Prioritizes the most recent, consistent level of performance
School Procedures Absences: All absence notes must be sent in within 5 days after the absences occur, or the students absent will be marked as unexcused. Any students have 18, or more, unexcused absences will be considered truant. You will receive letters if your child has excessive absences. Remote learning: Students are marked present if they take part in live learning on zoom. They will be marked absent if they are NOT on zoom and do not complete the zoom recordings and work at a later time in the day. P.T.A: The P.T.A. provides many fun and enriching opportunities during the school year (assemblies, field day, etc.).
