Geriatric and Palliative Medicine M4 Rotation LOGISTICS 4 Weeks No Call No nights or weekends Memphis Knoxville Chattanooga
Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine Rotation Memphis Inpatient palliative care Inpatient geriatrics Private outpatient geriatrics Physician & Nurse Practitioner home visits General and specialty clinics that see geriatric patients Variety of hospice settings Accompany physicians for visits in geriatric skilled nursing facilities Reading and writing to facilitate learning objectives include submitting questions for discussions, completing 5 Wishes Advance Directive, and Narrative Medicine Didactics - Wednesday afternoons and first and last day of rotation
Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine Rotation Knoxville Inpatient Palliative Medicine Team - 1 week o Rounds, Consultations, Family Meetings Outpatient Hospice - 1 week o Work with interdisciplinary team: physician, hospice nurses, and chaplain Geriatrics - 2 weeks (contains mixture of the following experiences in full/half day increments) o Skilled Nursing Facility visits with Geriatrician o Integrative Care Clinic o Inpatient pastoral rounds o Geriatric pharmacotherapy clinic with clinical pharmacologist o Balance and Hearing Center (audiology, PT/OT, ENT) o The Pat Summitt Clinic Didactics are incorporated into clinical settings Narrative Medicine and 5 Wishes are required activities
Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine Rotation Chattanooga Geriatric experience at Siskin Rehabilitation Hospital Hospice experience at Hospice of Chattanooga with Physician, Hospice Nurses and Chaplains Palliative Care clinic Geriatric inpatient experience with multidisciplinary geriatric therapists and Local agency on Aging and Disability
Scheduling Questions related to residency interviews As 1 of 2 specific required rotations, students should not schedule Geriatric/Palliative rotation a month they hope or expect to have multiple residency interviews Flexibility will be given for attending 1 or 2 or, in special circumstances 3 interviews. Interviews should be scheduled to avoid missing (in Memphis) Wednesday didactics and sessions on the first and last day of the rotation.
