Social Responsibility and Sustainability (SRS) in Vet Med Secondment to the Institute for Academic Development: http://www.ed.ac.uk/institute-academic-development/work-with-us/secondments Curriculum mapping exercise to determine those areas of the veterinary curriculum where SRS themes were present but not explicit, or where it could be included Student Research Component Foundation course was a strong candidate to adapt with minor changes

  3. Student Research Component Foundation Project Year 2 course in the five-year Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVM&S) degree Interdisciplinary focus already present students encouraged to carry out research on a topic with no direct connection to the veterinary curriculum Group project (4 students) Prepares students for solo research project in years 3-5 Some student concern in feedback that this was not related to their veterinary interest and/or that the choice of any topic was too broad

  4. Course adaptations for 2015-16 Inclusion of social responsibility and sustainability themes Sustainability Economics/socio-economics One Health or One Well-being High technology/low technology Ethics Local/global issues Cultural influences Inclusion of species groups or tracks , i.e. equine, companion animals, production/farm animals, wildlife Group submission comprises a blog, poster and presentation. Poster presentation given in the format and style of the Vet Ed symposium (http://vetedsymposium.org/) direct link to professional experience. Blog the result of collaboration with colleagues in Medicine.

  5. Feedback and development Positive feedback from staff and students on the course, and from staff, students and visitors to the campus who saw the posters displayed in the atrium Student blogs and posters include a call to action in many instances Following on from requests received from external sources, intention to include a poster award next year. Voting open to all who visit the campus providing clear audience input and appreciation

  6. Blog access Blogs have now been marked, and editing rights will be returned to the students on their return from spring placements.
