Name change Now known as the Early Education and Child Development Early Education and Child Development Team Team New team members Katherine Barber has joined the team as a Quality lead. Charlotte Smith has secured a permanent role. Nicola Cooper and Charlotte Greenaway have become permanent inclusion advisers. Tracie Clements joins the inclusion team. Thomas Cherry joining funding team at the end of May. Sarah Spencer will be retiring in June.
Ofsted updates Ofsted shared data in from South West inspections over the last 12 months. In Gloucestershire, 117 providers have been inspected since May 2024. 61 day nurseries and 22 governor run providers. 94% of providers across Gloucestershire (580 providers) are currently judged good or above. None of Gloucestershire providers are judged inadequate. We are 1 county along with 5 others out of 15 across the South West in this position.

Changes for September 2025 Early years inspection toolkit and report card. Safeguarding training will include information from annexe C. Ofsted will look at setting safeguarding culture. The intention is Ofsted will take a SHORT break from inspections and will start inspections under the new framework from November to allow providers a transition period, and inspectors to time to train. This is not yet confirmed.
Updated EYFS requirements From September 2025; Safer recruitment strengthened. New requirement to follow up prolonged absence. New requirement that providers should have regard to nutrition guidance. Strengthening of criteria for safeguarding training.
Continued; Safeguarding policies to include how safeguarding training is delivered and how practitioners are supported to put training into practice. Students and trainees required to have PFA to be counted in ratios. Whistleblowing strengthened through new requirements. Privacy for children during nappy changing and toileting.
