What We Heard: Strengths Amazing and accepting students Dedicated, committed and stable faculty Strong and varied academic and alternative programs Wide variety of extra curricular opportunities for students Community engagement, support and involvement Economic and racial diversity Commitment to equity Strong reputation and tradition Parent support and involvement Rich and unique community located near Chicago Ample resources and financial stability Families move to the community because of the quality of OPRFHS

What We Heard: Challenges Inconsistent student behavior expectations Resistance to change by some Programs for non college bound students Perception of lack of financial stewardship Need to reimagine education Facilities/pool Do we need a superintendent and a principal? Feeder schools and two communities are not equally included Achievement gap is long standing and stagnant/ African American students are consistently left behind Tracking/limited access to AP classes for all students/ disproportionate number of minorities in special education classes Equity- racial and gender/system needs to work for all students Demanding parent and community base that offers opinions on everything Need to focus on social emotional learning Communication Climate and culture/an in-depth understanding of all students is needed/racial, socio-economic, ethnic

What We Heard: Characteristics A strong and courageous leader/a decision maker who stands firm even through negativity Experienced educator/leader with a proven record of success in schools with similar demographics In-depth understanding of racial and social justice/willing to take on the challenge Collaborative/diplomatic - builds consensus, relationships and trust Appreciates the complexities of the OPRF community, history and traditions Ability to build, lead and manage a team/pulls people together Committed to and believes that all students can reach high achievement Passionate and visionary

What We Heard: Characteristics, Continued Visible and engaged in the high school and the greater community Record of success in high performing high school with gaps in achievement for the lowest performing students Honest/personable/has integrity/approachable Works collaboratively with the Board of Education Financially astute Innovative and inspirational Effective communicator/listener/ability to engage all stakeholders Understands the impact of race and economics on school culture and achievement Ability to lead the Board of Education

Other Information the Board Should Consider Living in or near the community is preferred Doctorate not necessary, but preferred We are looking for a long term superintendent Planned retirements in the next few years will give the new superintendent an opportunity to build a team Student Voice: Please remember that attending OPRF is a complex and diverse experience Respect the culture which we value Please keep the students perspective in mind Provide us the opportunity to give input into the decision making process
