  1. History: what happened? what did it mean? What does it mean now?

  2. Chapters 1-18 God saves Israel from Egyptian bondage Chapters 19-24 God gives Israel his law Chapters 25-40 God commands Israel to build the tabernacle

  3. Know this for certain: Your offspring will be resident aliens for four hundred years in a land that does not belong to them and will be enslaved and oppressed. However, I will judge the nation they serve, and afterward they will go out with many possessions. But you will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age. In the fourth generation they will return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure. , Genesis 15

  4. After a long time, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned because of their difficult labor, and they cried out, and their cry for help because of the difficult labor ascended to God. God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. and God saw the Israelites, and God knew. Exodus 2:23-25

  5. Meanwhile, Moses was shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. Then the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire within a bush. As Moses looked, he saw that the bush was on fire but was not consumed. So Moses thought, I must go over and look at this remarkable sight. Why isn t the bush burning up? Exodus 3:1-3

  6. When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from the bush, Moses, Moses! Here I am, he answered. Do not come closer, he said. Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. Then he continued, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God. Then the Lord said, I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt, and have heard them crying out because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings, and I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and to bring them from that land to a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey the territory of the Canaanites, (and the other "ites") Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. So because the Israelites cry for help has come to me, and I have also seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them, therefore, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh so that you may lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt. Exodus 3:4-10

  7. But Moses asked God, Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt? He answered, I will certainly be with you, and this will be the sign to you that I am the one who sent you: when you bring the people out of Egypt, you will all worship God at this mountain. Then Moses asked God, If I go to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your ancestors has sent me to you, and they ask me, What is his name? what should I tell them? God replied to Moses, I AM WHO I AM., This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you. God also said to Moses, Say this to the Israelites: The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever; this is how I am to be remembered in every generation. Exodus 3:11-15

  8. Gods Plan for the World God s Plan for Israel God s Plan for Moses

  9. Moses: "I am not a good speaker" God: "I made your mouth." Moses: "Can't you find someone else?"

  10. Tell them, I am who I am, has sent you.

  11. Luke 24

  12. He said to them, How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Wasn t it necessary for the Messiah to suffer these things and enter into his glory? Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted for them the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures.

  13. Jesus and the Exodus

  14. Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Luke 9

  15. The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and John said, Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 1 Peter 1

  16. Hebrews 2

  17. Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.

  18. INVICTUS Out of the night that covers me Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance, I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate I am the captain of my soul.

  19. Christ alone is Invictus unconquerable
