Paul has made the Paul has made the argument that no argument that no one can be justified one can be justified by the law because by the law because no one has ever no one has ever been able to keep all been able to keep all of it of it
For no one will be justified in His sight by the works of the law, because the knowledge of sin comes through the law. Romans 3:20 (HCSB) Romans 3:20 (HCSB)
And as is often the case, the place where we ended our last study becomes the springboard for our next one
1. 1. APART FROM THE APART FROM THE LAW: LAW: But now, apart from the law apart from the law, God s righteousness has been revealed Romans 3:21a (HCSB) Romans 3:21a (HCSB)
If no one could be justified (declared righteous) by the law it stands to reason that we should seek another avenue to pursue righteousness.
Does that mean that we should reject the law?
and you know that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 2 Timothy 3:15 2 Timothy 3:15- -16 (HCSB) 16 (HCSB)
Dont assume that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For I assure you: Until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or one stroke of a letter will pass from the law until all things are accomplished. Matthew 5:17 Matthew 5:17- -18 (HCSB) 18 (HCSB)
2. THE LAW & PROPHETS POINTED TO CHRIST! But now, apart from the law, God s righteousness has been revealed attested by the Law and the Prophets Romans 3:21 (HCSB) Romans 3:21 (HCSB)
In English translations of the Bible, when the Law Law and the Prophets are capitalized, it is a reference to the Old Testament Prophets
FROM THE LAW: FROM THE LAW: I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel. Genesis 3:15 (HCSB) Genesis 3:15 (HCSB)
FROM THE LAW: FROM THE LAW: I will make you into a great nation, I will bless you, I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, I will curse those who treat you with contempt, and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you. Genesis 12:2 Genesis 12:2- -3 (HCSB) 3 (HCSB)
FROM THE PROPHETS: FROM THE PROPHETS: Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are small among the clans of Judah; One will come from you to be ruler over Israel for Me. His origin is from antiquity, from eternity. Micah 5:2 (HCSB) Micah 5:2 (HCSB)
FROM THE PROPHETS: FROM THE PROPHETS: But He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on Him, and we are healed by His wounds. Isaiah 53:5 (HCSB) Isaiah 53:5 (HCSB)
The point is that moving from The point is that moving from the Law to the Gospel is not the Law to the Gospel is not an arbitrary rejection of one an arbitrary rejection of one religious idea in favor of religious idea in favor of something more palatable something more palatable but instead, it is what God but instead, it is what God had in mind all along. had in mind all along.
3. RIGHTEOUSNESS 3. RIGHTEOUSNESS DEFINED DEFINED that is, God s righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ, to all who believe, since there is no distinction. Romans 3:22 (HCSB) Romans 3:22 (HCSB)

For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ like a garment . There is no Jew or Greek, slave or free, male or female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham s seed, heirs according to the promise. Galatians 3:27 Galatians 3:27- -29 (HCSB) 29 (HCSB)
5. PROBLEM RESTATED 5. PROBLEM RESTATED For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 (HCSB) Romans 3:23 (HCSB)
6. TERMS OF PARDON 6. TERMS OF PARDON They are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. God presented Him as a propitiation through faith in His blood, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His restraint God passed over the sins previously committed. Romans 3:24 Romans 3:24- -25 (HCSB) 25 (HCSB)

8. REMAIN HUMBLE! 8. REMAIN HUMBLE! Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By one of works? No, on the contrary, by a law of faith. For we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. Romans 3:27 Romans 3:27- -28 (HCSB) 28 (HCSB)
For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God s gift not from works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8 Ephesians 2:8- -9 (HCSB) 9 (HCSB)
9. ONE PLAN FOR ALL 9. ONE PLAN FOR ALL Or is God for Jews only? Is He not also for Gentiles? Yes, for Gentiles too, since there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. Romans 3:29 Romans 3:29- -30 (HCSB) 30 (HCSB)
10. THE LAW UPHELD 10. THE LAW UPHELD Do we then cancel the law through faith? Absolutely not! On the contrary, we uphold the law. Romans 3:31 (HCSB) Romans 3:31 (HCSB)
