  3. Resolving to Live Better Selected Scriptures Happy New Year A.D. 2023 Trusting God Series: God can be trusted because of Who He is, His character & attributes God has done His part, but you must also do your part in pursuit of a holy life (2 Peter 1)

Resolving to Live Better Selected Scriptures 1 Peter Series: Understanding your identity in Christ enables you to live a godly life even when persecuted Many specific practical topics on Christian living were also taught The wise number their days (Ps 90) & make the most of their time (Eph. 5:16)

  5. Resolutions Resolutions are not as important to modern society as they were in the past Resolutions are good for us because thoughtful change is good for us and resolutions require that

  6. Mans Ability to Change The ability to think and make choices resulting in changes Evidence of change: Technology Political systems / Societal values Humanitarian efforts God must intervene to change man s sinful nature

  7. Gods Charge to Change Romans 12:1-2 Colossians 3 & Romans 6 There is legitimate reason to call into question the profession of a Christian that does not change

  8. Breaking Old Habits Recognize the need, confess any sins, seek the will / mind of God Seek what is best, not just what is acceptable or good Eph. 5:16; 1 Cor. 10:23-24; 6:12-20 The first key to success in breaking an old habit is coming under conviction that it needs to be broken

  9. Establishing New Habits Replace old bad habits with related good new habits It takes conscious effort & diligence to stop an old habit & replace it with a new one

  10. Establishing New Habits Beware: Bad habits & good habits are formed the same way. Whatever becomes your routine becomes your habit

  11. Fundamental Issues to Change Jeremiah 17:10; 1 Samuel 16:7; 1 Chronicles 28:9 1) To Personally know God & walk with Him (Ex. 33:13; 1 Pet. 3:18; John 17:3; 1 Peter 3:18; Phil. 3:10) 2) To worship God in Spirit & Truth (John 4:24; Heb. 13:15; Psalm 51:17) 3) Personal Holiness & doing God s will (1 Peter 1:16; Psalm 51:2,10; Rom. 12:2)

  13. Particular Issues to Change Loving God Do you love God with all your heart, mind and soul? How does time spent knowing & serving God compare with hobbies & entertainment? Do your finances reflect love for God?

  14. Particular Issues to Change Loving Your Neighbor Do you love your neighbor as yourself? Are you quick to forgive & be at peace with others? Are you careful about what you see? Are you greedy or generous? Are you marked by honesty?

  15. Particular Issues to Change Godliness or Worldliness Do you love the world & things in the world or God? (1 John 2:15-17) Are you setting aside worldly vices? (Colossians 3:2-8) Are you walking in the Spirit to think & behave differently? (Eph. 4:24; Phil. 4:8; Gal. 5:19-23)

  16. Getting Help Until you get your resurrection bodies, there will always be room to improve. God grants the Ministry of the Holy Spirit to empower you to change God designed the Ministry of the church to build up & encourage one another in the walk of faith seek out other believers for mutual ministry

  17. Conclusions The Bulletin insert allows you to share your resolution with someone else for encouragement & accountability Let us all be serious about living for Christ and helping one another
