  2. Who is GDCP? The Grants and District/Community Programs Office is a team of two with a growing group of community partners and District and community advisors. Holly Dickinson, Director of Grants & District/Community Programs Kristin Woodcock, Secretary for Grants & District/Community Programs

  3. How is GDCP Different from R&D? Grants and District/Community Programs combines the grants and programs work of Research & Development with an intentional, focused approach to increasing quality parent and community involvement in our schools. GDCP efforts include coordinating District and community resources, through beneficial partnerships, to identify and fill gaps in student services with a special interest in social, emotional, and behavioral health as well as overall wellness.

  4. What does GDCP do? There are 2 main components of our work Grants and Programs (usually funded by grants). Grants Projects Identify needs (gaps in service) Work with District, family, & community partners Develop quality programs Direct District/community programs Collect and analyze data before, during, & after program implementation Identify grant funding opportunities Complete all aspects of the grant application, budget, and reporting process Oversee and support school- level grant work through School Based Development Ensure that programs and budgets are responsibly managed

  7. What is School Based Development? SBD is Grant writing & management education and support for building-based staff. The goal is to support teachers and building administrators in their pursuit of funding to expand and improve opportunities for student learning and staff development.

  8. What Does GDCP Provide for SBD? Support Oversight Grant writing & management education A grant writing approval process Funding opportunity resources Regular meetings to review progress & provide support Review & editing of applications and budgets Reminders of due dates and what is due Advisement on data collection and reporting District-level grant progress tracking Ongoing technical assistance

  9. Okay, Im InterestedNow What? You Will Need to Have a project you d like to fund Submit a Grant Inquiry Form (on the GDCP website) Find a funding opportunity that supports your project (GDCP can help with this) Set up a meeting with me to discuss the project Work with GDCP to complete the application Meet ALL deadlines especially the submission deadline

  10. What Are the Grant Writing Basics? You Will Need to Identify the need for your proposed project Why should your project be funded? Provide project goals and measures What are you hoping to achieve? How will you know if it has worked? Design the project elements How will you meet your goals? What will take place? Identify the funding needed and its allocation How will you use the funding if you are awarded? Commit to faithful implementation if awarded

  11. What Happens if I Am Awarded the Grant? You Will Need to Celebrate! Then notify GDCP and send us your award letter/email Set up a meeting with me to discuss next steps Do what you said you d do in the application Meet ALL deadlines set forth by the funder Share your success don t forget this part, its important Stay in contact with GDCP we are here to help you succeed!

  12. An Example of the Process Your students are struggling with a concept that is traditionally difficult to grasp. Because they need to think in complexways to understand and internalized the problem they really need to do the problem in a practical sense instead of just learning its theory. Inspiration hits!! You get a great idea for a project that will give them a hands on experience that will really involve them in their learning. Problem

  13. Example Continued .Your project will need funding You remember this PowerPoint! You spend some time fleshing out your project: what you hope to achieve, why it matters, how you ll know if it s a success, etc. Then submit a Grant Inquiry Form and receive possible funding opportunities. EUREKA! You find one that matches your project. We meet to go over your next steps and you complete the application (contacting our office when you have questions).

  14. Example Continued Once you have a solid draft of the grant application I will review it and provide feedback. You don t have to request that I edit, but I follow the policy of always having a second set of eyes before my work leaves my hands its just a good idea. Also, it is really important that your application meet the goals of the grantor since, if you are awarded, you must follow-through on implementing it with fidelity to the proposed project.

  15. Example Continued Lets say you were awarded funds for your project Yay!! Now the real work begins (this is also the fun part)! You will need to implement the project and keep any records that the grantor may require for reporting. You will also want to note any important deadlines.

  16. One More Important Thing If you ve been awarded a grant, and are investing the time to implement the project it funds, people should know about it! Never underestimate the power of promotion! Take pictures, keep examples of student work, and write a couple of paragraphs about what you and your students are accomplishing. And then get it out there! If you aren t sure how (or aren t comfortable doing it) give your information to me and we will be happy to toot your horn for you!
