Key resources UKPHR Guidance document This is the rulebook for all processes relating to UKPHR practitioner registration UKPHR Supporting Information document This contains additional detailed information on the UKPHR standards (page 11 onwards) and processes HEE Training Directory- linked to the UKPHR standards, you can find suitable courses here to improve your theoretical knowledge and gain valuable CPD Learning Hub A suite of modular resources to help you develop your portfolio 2

  3. Ready? You can start to prepare for registration at any point in your career Once you have been working at an autonomous level for 2+ years, you are eligible to apply to a scheme Starting as soon as possible is a great idea- as you can compile much of your portfolio, and complete all the learning whilst you progress Talk to your line manager and include UKPHR portfolio development in your annual appraisal, using the Standards to help you plan your CPD for the year ahead Complete the UKPHR Online Introductory session to give you more information about what is required Take a look at the Portfolio Resources here which are a step-by-step guide to preparing a portfolio Catalogue (learninghub.nhs.uk) 3

  4. Get-set Completing a full self- assessment against the UKPHR standards will give you the best possible start and enable you to review current knowledge and competencies- and areas for development. Use a template like the example one below, ideally in Excel. The areas highlighted are those actions you need to take to gain either knowledge or experience. There are 34 standards- so this process should take some time (ask your scheme co- ordinator for a copy) I have sufficient evidence to demonstrate this standard (GREEN) I have some evidence to demonstrate this standard (AMBER) I have no evidence to demonstrate this standard (RED) For example RAG rating Use an ethical approach in your area of work, identifying ethical dilemmas or issues arising and how you address them. Knowledge evidence? FPH masterclass Application evidence? Child health project Ev: Specification I wrote with section on need for an ethical approach 1.2 Act in ways that promote equality and diversity Equality and Diversity training Healthy Weight Project Not sure what evidence to use for this standard 1.3 4

  5. Go!! Once you have fully completed the self-assessment and have completed the relevant CPD to fill any gaps you are ready to apply to a regional scheme You can find out which scheme you are eligible to join here UK Public Health Register How to apply for practitioner registration (ukphr.org) Start to consider which 3 or 4 discreet pieces of work you will write about in your "commentaries" Remember- big is not always best- choose work that is a) recent b) you worked mostly autonomously Use the Catalogue (learninghub.nhs.uk) modules to help guide you You are ready to commence writing your portfolio- this process will take 12-18 months to complete the formal assessment and verification process. Apply to join your regional scheme. 5

  6. Things to consider: The basis of your portfolio will be 3 or 4 commentaries which are reflective reports about pieces of work you have done. Good preparation will be to choose these early- and start to compile the evidence. You need to have either led on- or been a key contributor- to these pieces of work You need to be able to access all the documents relating to the work, such as emails, reports, evaluations, ppt presentations etc etc Have you kept good records of your CPD? Ideally your knowledge evidence will be within the last 5 years- so most people find they need to complete CPD. Doing this prior to applying to join a scheme will enable you to focus on the portfolio when you join us. 6
