  2. GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB Objectives of Guidelines To check the readiness of schools before reopening To cope with any emergency situation in schools

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB Guidelines are based on, SOPs guide issued by office of Minister of School Education, Punjab Global guideline framework for safe school opening prepared by UNICEF, UNESCO, World Bank & UNCHR Working paper prepared by PMIU National guidelines issued by Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training Discussions with staff of DEAs, DPI & SED

  4. GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB SOPs and Adjustments These guidelines will serve as minimum SOPs for reopening of schools. DEAs can adapt and adjust at the local level on basis of COVID-19 spread, resources available, enrolment, infrastructure etc. Adjustments made by DEAs will ensure the best practices for prevention of spread of COVID-19.

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB A- Actions / Steps to be taken before reopening of schools Sanitization & Cleanliness Sanitize / clean / disinfect schools a few days before reopening. Seek coordination from District Health Authority for disinfecting the schools used as quarantine / isolation centers.

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB A- Actions / Steps to be taken before reopening of schools COVID-19 Testing & Quarantine at home If teachers and staff experience symptoms, COVID-19 testing should be conducted through Govt. hospitals. Student and staff with COVID-19 symptoms or who remained with COVID-19 patient will remain at home.

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB A- Actions / Steps to be taken before reopening of schools Capacity building and Communication Train all staff and teachers and orient parent committees, School Councils, and others - 05 days before schools reopening. Make these announcements through mosques; 1. Schedule of reopening of schools 2. Follow SOPs on, Mandatory wearing of masks, Less crowding at school entrance, Older members of family to avoid coming to school etc.

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB A- Actions / Steps to be taken before reopening of schools Arrangements for Hand-Washing Ensure access to running water and soap for hand washing. Increase hand-washing facilities to avoid crowding Determine how many additional hand-washing stations are needed Install low cost /portable plastic drums with tap and wooden/ metal support

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB A- Actions / Steps to be taken before reopening of schools Hiring Sweepers & school cleaning Hire sweepers through NSB & other resources for cleaning and disinfecting school daily after students leave. Guide the sweeper to, Use disinfectant or soap & water Prioritise to clean frequently used items (switches, doorknobs etc.) Place small spray bottles with water and disinfectant / antiseptic in every class for cleaning the desks, doors, cupboards etc.

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB A- Actions / Steps to be taken before reopening of schools Maintaining Distance between students Draw lines with chalk / tapes in classrooms to keep at least 3 feet distance between students. Decide the number of students in a classroom as per the above rule. Develop and display seating plan at classroom entrance Prepare and display guidelines for canteen, school transport, school grounds, laboratory, library etc.

Tasks Assignments Prepare duty rosters for school cleanliness (teachers and students) Make a Covid-19 cell comprising headmaster, teachers, parents and a community member Constitute Markiz & Tehsil level COVID-19 Committees for response to school COVID-19 cells

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB A- Actions / Steps to be taken before reopening of schools Screening at Entry / Exit Set up temperature screening point Mark the control point area where temperature screening will be done and where students will wait before entering school Mark distance-spots with chalk powder to avoid overcrowding at school entrance. Keep updated record of contact numbers of all parents. Identify space to temporarily separate sick students and staff.

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB A- Actions / Steps to be taken before reopening of schools Essential Procurements Ensure procurement and provision of the following at school level through NSB; Soap Cleaning supplies Infrared thermometer (where possible) Physical marking tapes/chalk powder Tent/shade and pedestal fans for outside classes Hand sanitizer (1 for each classroom)

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB B- Actions / Steps to be taken after reopening of schools Safe Entry / Exit Depute staff at entrance gate for safe school entry & exit in high enrolment schools. Use multiple gates for entry and exit wherever possible. Maintain distance during entry and exit. Conduct daily temperature screening (where possible) at school entrance Maintain record of students, teachers, and staff sent back to home due to high temperature.

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB B- Actions / Steps to be taken after reopening of schools Teach and Reinforce Take special classes to teach and reinforce; Use of masks Hand hygiene practices Use of soap and water Hand-washing duration - at least 20 seconds When to wash hands - on arrival to school, before and after meals / snacks, after bathroom breaks

  17. GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB B- Actions / Steps to be taken after reopening of schools Keeping Distance between individuals Discourage sharing of items (books, stationery etc.) Ban large gatherings: No school assembly No large events (milads & August 14th celebrations) No gatherings with more than 10 outside of class No spectators for sports No contact sports or less-distance-sports No recess breaks in high enrolment schools and at-desk policy where possible, or Staggering of breaks (one class gets break at a time)

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB B- Actions / Steps to be taken after reopening of schools Health Monitoring & Reporting Conduct Daily Health Monitoring and report to competent authority on students updates (temperature checks, corona symptoms etc.) Appoint COVID-19 Monitor (student) in classroom to ensure SOPs.

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB B- Actions / Steps to be taken after reopening of schools Teach & Reinforce Ask teachers to orient students on new school protocols in each classroom, like What to do if they feel ill Promoting safe and healthy behaviour Cough and sneezing etiquette (5 minutes every day) Non-contact greetings How to make cloth mask at home

  20. GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB B- Actions / Steps to be taken after reopening of schools Ventilation in Classrooms Keep window and door open. No Visitors in schools Do not allow visitor during schools hours. For COVID-19 patients and suspects Waive the requirement for doctor s note to allow absence. Ask students and staff to stay home for 14 days in the case of COVID-19 history.

  21. GUIDELINES FOR SAFE REOPENING OF SCHOOLS IN PUNJAB B- Actions / Steps to be taken after reopening of schools For COVID-19 patients and suspects Notify to health authority in positive COVID-19 case. Guide infected individuals not to return to school before two weeks after recovery.
