Hair and Beauty School provision 2021/22
The Hair and Beauty Industry There are over 40,000 hair, beauty and barbering businesses in the UK with around 287,000 people working in the industry. It is a diverse and growing industry which offers many opportunities of employment such as: Hair stylists, colour technicians, make- up artists, nail technicians, beauty therapists, lecturers, salon owners etc .
Course overview VTCT Level 2 Extended Award in Hair and Beauty Skills (VRQ). Designed for 14-16 year olds. Delivered at Graig Campus,Llanelli. 2 hours per week. The course contains a mixture of both practical and theory work and requires the completion of written assignments and practical assessments. The qualification is equivalent to 2 GCSE s with possible grades achieved at pass, merit and distinction.
Course overview cont. Over the course of two years you will complete 4 units in total. Pupils need to have a positive attitude, be motivated, hard working and attend regularly, this is essential for successful completion of course.
Year 1 Basic manicure You will learn all about the structure of the nails and skin. The different nail shapes available such as square, coffin and round. How to carryout a correct and thorough consultation with your client and any health and safety factors to consider. You will be taught the massage techniques you will need to do prior to shaping and polishing clients nails. Basic nail art This unit requires you to design your own nail wheel incorporating a number of your own designs. Year 2 Blow-dry and finish hair This unit will see you producing a mood board of different blow drying and styling techniques, different products that can be used on the hair and the effect that heat has on the hair. You will learn about the hair structure and how styling the hair changes the bonds in the hair. You will work on dolls heads to produce different styles using a number of tools and equipment. Create an image based on a theme For this unit you will create a total look including hair, make-up and nails based on a theme. Progression Successful completion of the course could lead onto: VTCT Level 1 NVQ Diploma in Women s Hairdressing VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Women s Hairdressing VTCT Level 1 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy Studies VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy Studies Courses can be studied through a full time or apprenticeship provision.
