EPS-ESE Community H a rva r d U n i v e r s i t y Thursday, April 29th, 2021 12:00 - 1:30 pm EST DIB Committee Updates for AY 2020-21 Subgroups: 1) Undergraduate Recruitment EPS advising buddy program, open houses, panel discussions, and recruitment events 2) Graduate Student Recruitment compiled resources for prospective students, worked with Alexis Stokes to host a series of recruitment events aimed at URM students, which resulted in an incoming class with one of the largest percentages of URM students in the history of EPS. 3) Workshops and Resources/Colloquia organized several DIB-related colloquium talks and department events, working on department-wide trainings, launched DIB website and scorecard, initiated FAQ resource for faculty websites 4) Research Experience for Undergraduates developing and NSF proposal to establish an REU in EPS
EPS-ESE Community H a rva r d U n i v e r s i t y Thursday, April 29th, 2021 12:00 - 1:30 pm EST DIB Committee Updates for AY 2020-21 Subgroups cont d 5) History of Racism and Updating Imagery authored and posted one-page summaries of the racist legacies of Louis Agassiz and Nathaniel Shaler and had pieces honoring Shaler and Agassiz either removed or covered up; in process of cataloging and reviewing images on our department building walls. DIB Office Hours Discussed several topics between since last summer including: Prejudice Reduction, Land Acknowledgement, Sexism in Geoscience, Disabilities (visible and invisible), Increasing Diversity among Graduate Student Population, Race and Racism, and The Effect of the Pandemic on Women s Research. DIB Scorecard on website; tracks progress of the subgroup s goals
