  3. Health education This activities involving some form of communication designed to improve health knowledge and development of life skills.

  4. Con. is an approach for teaching patients and families to deal with past, present and future health problems. This knowledge enable them to make informed decisions, to cope more effectively with temporary or long term alterations in health and lifestyle, and to assume greater responsibility for health.

Whether the nurse is providing one-on-one education to a new mother about the benefits of breast-feeding. educational techniques are being used to promote health in the community. * Knowledge of educational and teaching methods can assist the nurse to frame these health messages for the greatest impact to promotion of the health.

  7. *Teaching is a specialized communication process in which desired behavior changes are achieved. The goal of all teaching is learning. *Learning is a process of assimilating new information that promotes a permanent change in behavior. *Effective teaching is a cause; learning becomes the effect.

  8. To teach effectively, especially in the community where teaching is the focus of care, nurses need to understand the various domains of learning.

  9. Domains of learning 1) The cognitive domain The cognitive domain of learning involves the mind and thinking processes. cognitive learning is experienced. *The cognitive domain deals with the recall or recognition of knowledge and the development of intellectual abilities and skills

  10. 2) Affective Domain The affective domain in which learning occurs involves emotion, feeling, or affect. This kind of learning deals with changes in interest, attitudes, and values. Attitudes and values are learned. They develop gradually, as the way an individual feels and responds is molded by family, peers, experiences, and cultural influences.

  11. 3)Psychomotor Domain The psychomotor domain includes visible, demonstrable performance skills that require some kind of neuromuscular coordination. Clients in the community need to learn skills such as infant bathing, temperature taking, breast or testicular self-examination.

  12. People pass through a series of changes before they adopt a new practice. 1) Stage of Awareness At this stage, the person come to know about new idea or practice. He has only a general information about it and knows little about its usefulness and applicability to him.

  13. 2) Stage of Interest In this stage, the person seeks more information, he is willing to listen or read or learn more about it.

  14. 3) Stage of Evaluation During this stage, the person weights the pros and cons of the practice and evaluates its usefulness to him and his family. It is a mental exercise results in decision to try or reject the practice.

  15. 4) Trial Stage In this stage, education is put in to practice; he may experience the need for more information to solve the problems. 5) Adoption Stage At this stage, person decides that new practice is good and adopts it. In a community, people may be in different stages of the adoption process. Adoption is usually slow in the initial stage.
