Helping Harfords Homeless since 2006 1221 Brass Mill Road Belcamp, MD
Mission: To provide safe, emergency housing to individuals who are experiencing homelessness and to assist and empower them to obtain community housing. We are the only year-round full-service shelter in Harford County for individuals experiencing homelessness We provide safe shelter, a bunk, linens and towels, hygiene supplies, laundry and shower services, 3 meals a day, and case management services We are a 90-day program. Individuals do not have to worry about where they will sleep or eat for up to 90 days, so they can develop stability and make plans for community housing. Individuals who are working with their case manager and have a plan may have their stay extended. We can serve 33 people at a time. We have 27 beds for males and 6 beds for females
2019-2020 We served 162 people between the ages of 19 through 73 years old 77% were male; 23% were female 10% were seniors over the age of 62 11% were veterans 22% experienced chronic homelessness 56% were White, 36% were African American, 4% were 2 or more races 2% were American Indian, 2% were Asian The average stay was 121 days. Due to COVID-19 this was an increase over last years 80-day average stay. 59% of residents had mental health issues or substance abuse issues 46% had chronic health issues 95% had incomes under $24,000 annually; 98% of residents participated in case management services 137 residents exited the program 77% transitioned to temporary or permanent community housing 20% exited to places not fit for human habitation 3% exited to hospital, jail, death
COVID-19 Since April 2020 we have been housing our residents in local motels to mitigate the risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19. Residents are placed 2 to a room. Each room has a small refrigerator and microwave. Case Managers contact residents between 3-5 days a week to address concerns and assist them in their Action Plan Operations staff do on-site visits daily to do a wellness check on residents Twice a week Welcome One provides residents with non-perishable foods
