Counseling & Post-Secondary Readiness Course Selection WELCOME! The purpose of this presentation is to assist parents and students in planning for high school. Students and parents are strongly encouraged to: Refer to the FBISD Course Guide for more detailed information. Contact building counselors for questions and additional guidance.

Counseling & Post-Secondary Readiness Academic Grad Plans Graduation Plans Foundation + Endorsements - 26 credits Distinguished Level of Achievement - 26 credits Must include: 1endorsement, Algebra 2, and a 4th science credit. Foundations Only - 22 credits (must opt-in, senior year only) **End of Course Exams (STAAR/EOC):Algebra 1, Biology, English 1, English 2, and US History
Counseling & Post-Secondary Readiness Earning Credit What is a Credit? Student accumulate credits by passing a course. A Full-Year Course = 1.0 credit (.5 credits per Semester) Ex. English 1, Algebra 1 A Semester Only Course = .5 credit (awarded each semester) Ex. Health, Psychology

Counseling & Post-Secondary Readiness GraduationPlans Academic Grad Plans Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA) Same Requirements as Foundation + Endorsement In Addition: Requires Algebra II Completion of least one endorsement, **A student must graduate with a Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA) to be considered for the Top 10%* and eligibility for automatic admission to a Texas public college or university. *Not all institutions admit Top 10% but may have their own %
Counseling & Post-Secondary Readiness Performance Acknowledgments Academic Grad Plans Performance Acknowledgements may be earned in one or more of the following categories: AP test score of 3 or above; IB test score of 4 or above (transfer students only as the International Baccalaureate program is not available in FBISD); Qualifying PSAT score based on the 11th grade test; SAT combined critical reading and math score of 1250 or above; ACT composite score of 28 or above; College course with a final grade of A or B (3.0 or above); Bilingualism and bi-literacy; and Earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification or license.

Counseling & Post-Secondary Readiness Academic Options Advanced Placement Dual Credit Description The AP Program allows students to take college-level courses and exams, and to earn college credit or placement while still in high school. Dual Credit allows high school students to simultaneously earn high school and college credit by completing courses at their high school. Credit High school credit is awarded by earning a 70 or higher. College credit is awarded if a student scores a 3 or higher on the AP exam. Credit is awarded when the student passes the course. Students must pass a DC class with a C or higher to remain in the dual credit program. Teachers/Instruc tors Taught by high school teachers trained by The College Board. Taught by college instructors and/or high school teachers who serve as adjunct professors. Eligibility Open to any student Parent and counselor permission; TSI ready (ACT/SAT/PSAT/TSI scores) Which One Is Right For Me?

Counseling & Post-Secondary Readiness Endorsements CourseRequirements: Endorsements Similar to a College Major Endorsement pathways are typically a coherent sequence of 4 courses focused on a particular career field Can focus on Academics, Fine Arts, JROTC, or Career and Technical Education Offerings vary by campus
Counseling & Post-Secondary Readiness Endorsements CourseRequirements: Endorsements FBISD students will select their endorsement in the Spring of their 8th Grade Year using Skyward Family Access when they select their courses for next year. Students will have the opportunity to change their endorsement at the beginning of their 9th Grade Year, end of 9th Grade Year, and beginning of 10th Grade Year. The endorsement, and any changes, must be indicated in writing and signed by the parent

Related Careers: Robotics Technician, Computer Programmer. Medical Researcher, Engineer, Biochemist, Microbiologist, Environmentalist.

Pathways Include: Ag, Food & Natural Resources Architecture & Construction Arts, A/V & Communications Business, Marketing, & Finance Information Technology Related Careers: Accountant, Aircraft Controller, Interior Design, Electrician, Chef, Architect

Counseling & Post-Secondary Readiness Selecting Your Courses Important Things To Know It is important to remember that students may take a maximum of 7 credits each year. Students may search for courses by graduation requirement area or endorsement area. Students should edit their courses for the upcoming school year (i.e. 2021-22). When finished with edits, changes will automatically save. Keep in mind, students will edit their 4 year plan every year.
