  1. SCHEDULING 2020-2021 Midland High School

  2. Key Points Students will have 5 core content periods, English, math, science, social studies, and physical education; as well as 2 elective periods (two year long classes OR four semester long classes.) Required classes such as: Health, Business Concepts, and Civics can be taken Sophomore year and will need to be added in place of three elective classes. (Example: A student might want to take four semester long classes, three classes would need to be health and business concepts, and civics the other class the student could choose.) Start Times: 8:20 am Dismissal Times: 3:10 pm Class Length: 45 minutes 7 periods per day 8thhour study hall (30 min.)

  3. Core Subjects Students will choose their 5 Core subjects based on the district suggested criteria. English II (10thgrade) Algebra I, Geometry, Geometry CP, Algebra II CP Biology, Physical Science, or Chemistry Civics, World Literature Studies, or World History I, II Physical Education All students will choose their elective courses on line through Skyward student/family access. Students who need to take drivers education will be assigned to the course by the district depending on birthdates.

  4. Core Subject: Graduation Requirements As a prerequisite to receiving a high school diploma, each student must successfully complete the following courses and acquire the following required number of credits. Required courses: English - 4 credits Mathematics - 3 credits (3 years at H.S.) Science - 3 credits Social Studies - 2 credits (one unit of United States History, unit of Civics, and another unit is required) Consumer Education - credit Business Concepts - credit Health Education - credit Physical Education - 3 credits Vocation, Fine Arts, Foreign. Language - 3 credits Elective - 4 credits--chosen from Music, Art, Foreign Language, and Vocational Education __________ 24 credits required total Generally, classes which meet for 2 semesters earn 1 unit of credit. Classes that meet for 1 semester earn unit of credit. Classes that meet for a quarter, receive credit.

Core Subject: Graduation Requirements Required Credits 17 credits required courses 07 credits additional elective courses 24 credits total (starting for class of 2019) All students must take 4 academic credits plus P.E. each year. In addition, all students must complete community service hours before graduating. All graduates must have 24 hours of community service total earning 6 service hours a year. (Community service hours must be turned into the school counselor prior to May 1st.) Community service hours will be collected no later than May 1st, a student s senior year. Transfer student s service hours will be accumulated by the number of years in attendance equaling 6 service hours per year of attendance or 3 service hours per semester.

  8. Elective Courses Scheduling Elective Courses Students are required to schedule two periods of electives to complete their registration. Students can select two year-long elective courses, four semester elective courses, or a combination of the two. Example: Concert Choir- year long Introduction to Family and Consumer Science- semester long Introduction to Horticulture- semester long

  10. Selecting Classes in Skyward 1. Log on to Skyward 2. Click Open Student Access on the right hand side of the screen 3. Select Scheduling on the left hand side of the screen 4. Click Request Classes for 2020-2021 School Year 5. Schedule classes by highlighting the course you want/need and add it to your requested courses by selecting the add arrow in the center column. 6. If a pop-up window appears, it will ask if you want to add the co-requisite for the course. A co-requisite is a year long class and the co-requisite is needed, so click yes (ex. English will be listed in two semesters (0102A, and 0102B). A in the class code stands for semester 1 and B in the course code stands for semester 2. You will first need to schedule: English II (0102A and 0102B) Algebra I (0204), Geometry (0205) or Geometry CP (0210) Biology (0304), Chemistry (0307), or Physical Science (0305) Civics (0403CI) ELECTIVE* ELECTIVE* ELECTIVE* *YOU NEED 2 or 3 UNITS OF ELECTIVES YOUR REQUESTS YOU WILL NEED 7 CREDITS TOTAL TO CREATE A FULL SCHEDULE. Click the x in the right hand corner of the dialog box when you are through selecting courses and all progress should save. Course selections must be made by May 1st, or all courses will be assigned to the student by the school counselor.
