  4. Graduation Requirements: Class of 2026 At comprehensive high schools in Wake County, students will need to meet the following graduation requirements on the Future Ready Core: 26 Course Credits CPR Requirement

  5. Required Courses for 9thGraders English Math Science Social Studies Healthful Living (Includes Health and PE)

  6. English Requirements: All students must earn 4 credits in English. A few notes about English: English courses are requirements for promotion each year. English I Students have an Honors option in each of the four English courses. English II Students can substitute an Advanced Placement (AP) course for English III & IV by taking: AP English Literature AP English Language English III English IV

  7. Mathematics Requirements: A few notes about Math: All students must earn 4 credits in Math. Honors options exist for Math II & Math III Math I Math II Math III 4thmath course aligned to the student s plans after high school. Advanced Placement options exist beyond Math III.

  9. Graduation Requirements Graduation Requirements Students taking NC Math 1 or NC Math II in 7th/8thgrade will receive high school credit in Math. The grade will not be part of the high school GPA. However, the grade will show on the transcript.

  10. Science Requirements: All students must earn 3 credits in Science. A few notes about Science: Honors options exist for Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry, and Physics. Biology Earth Science A physical science course (Chemistry, Physics, or Physical Science) Students may substitute AP Environmental Science for their Earth Science graduation requirement.

  11. Social Studies Requirements: All students must earn 4 credits in Social Studies. A few notes about Social Studies: The honors option is available for all core courses in Social Studies. World History Civic Literacy American History Economics & Personal Finance With each of these courses except for Economics & Personal Finance, there is an Advanced Placement option. Inquire with your high school about options that they provide.

  12. Academies Specialized Academies available at most high schools. STEM, Health Science, Information Technology, Digital Media, Engineering, etc. Provides students with: Cohort of peers with similar interests and dedication Field experiences Job Shadowing and Internships Opportunities to jump start their future careers (ie. certification programs) Applications are online through your high school s website. March deadlines.

  13. Registration Every student will complete their base school registration. If a student moves or is accepted to a different school after we register for classes, send me an email. That student will register with me and I will send it to the new school.

  14. Course Selection for 9thGrade 8thgrade teachers have made recommendations based on high school guidelines. Your student s recommendations can be seen in their Powerschool portal. Make sure you are logged into the student portal to view these, they will not show up in the parent portal. If the recommendation is not what you hoped for, have your student talk to their teacher or Mrs. Font.

  15. 9thGrade Registration Each student will select 8 courses and 3 or 4 alternate elective courses (depending on school): English Math - If taking Foundation of Math1 and NCMath 1 or Math Plus and NCMath II, you will be taking 2 math classes. One as elective credit the other a core credit. Science Social Studies Healthful Living Electives Plus 4 alternate electives as 2nd choice electives

  16. Registering for Classes The eight classes should be the ones that they hope to have 1stand 2ndsemester. The alternate electives are those classes they are willing to take if they do not get the first choice. This is just the choice of classes, not a schedule.

  19. Course Levels Academic Honors Advanced Placement

  20. Honors Level Classes: What Does It Take? An accelerated, advanced course requiring significantly more work. Independent learning and reading outside of school. Discussions where you are prepared and participate Summer reading/assignments Vocabulary is geared toward SAT prep Emphasis on critical thinking Emphasis on college level reading and writing

  21. AP Level Classes: What Does It Take? AP classes are more rigorous than honors courses. Students should be prepared to read and take notes independently outside of school. After completing an AP class, students can take the AP exam and potentially receive college credit for that course if they receive a passing score. Taking an AP course shows colleges that students can handle college level work.

  23. Registering for Classes Students will register in PowerSchool. Students will use the recommendations from teachers in Powerschool and courses available at their specific high school to complete registration. You can view your student s course requests in their Powerschool student portal after they register.

  25. Promotion Requirements Promotion Requirements 9thto 10thGrade Must pass 6 courses: English 2 out of the following 3 (Math, Science, Social Studies) 3 additional courses

  26. High School Attendance Policy Students can only miss 10 Block Classes/semester in high school. Once a student misses his/her 11thBlock Class (Ex/ 11 absences for 1stblock English class) they receive an automatic FF . FF= Failed for violation of attendance policy It does not matter if you currently have an A in the class you receive an FF
