High School Virtual Plan 1
Student and staff safety is the most important single focus of our district. At this time the number of staff and students in quarantine, along with high levels of community spread, meet the thresholds for transitioning to virtual learning for a two-week period. Virtual Learning How we got here... Friday, October 16 will be the last face-to-face day for students. Monday, October 19 will be a teacher prep day. This a No School day for ALL SASD students. If your child s school was previously moved to all virtual learning, or if your child is attending online, the day is still a non-school day. Virtual learning will begin on Tuesday, October 20. We are hopeful to reopen school on Monday, November 2. 2
Some students struggle with the unstructured daily routine of online learning. To better meet the needs of all students online learning will look different from last Spring. A more structured virtual school day will include: Challenges of Online Learning My child does not learn as well online... Structured Day: All classes will follow the typical school bell schedule Teachers will be live for the entirety of their class to provide instruction and/or support 3
Students Who Registered for Virtual Learning My student was already attending virtually. How does this change learning for them? Students who were already virtual will now be expected to follow the daily bell schedule. This means students need to log into each of their classes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday in accordance with their schedule. If a student is absent from a virtual class, they need to make arrangements for missed learning with their teachers in the same manner they would in a traditional school environment. Teachers will be online during the entirety of the class to provide instruction and/or support. Wednesdays will be asynchronous learning days, meaning that students will be working independently on assigned work. 4
Obviously, students will not be attending school in a face-to-face setting until we are able to reopen. Current Hybrid Students I m currently attending in the hybrid model. How does this change learning for them? Students will need to log into each of their classes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday in accordance with their schedule. If a student is absent from a virtual class, they need to make arrangements for missed learning with their teachers in the same manner they would in a traditional school environment. Teachers will be online during the entirety of the class to provide instruction and/or support. Wednesdays will be asynchronous learning days, meaning students will be working independently on assigned learning tasks. 5
Given that instruction will take place daily in a live format. Attendance will be required and taken on a daily basis in the same manner in which it is traditionally taken in the classroom. Please ensure your child is present for all scheduled periods of the day. Attendance Daily Live Instruction 6

Monday, October 19 is now a day- off for all SASD students. The remainder of the school calendar is unaffected by the transition to virtual learning. Students still need to complete assigned learning tasks on Wednesdays even though classes will not be meeting live. 11
Contingency service plans for online learning are currently in place and have been communicated with families and can be viewed in Skyward. Special Education Please contact your child s case manager if you have any questions regarding your child s special education online services. My child has an IEP.
