  2. DEFINITIONS Quality Care Doing the right things at the right time with the least inconvenience to the patient with a view to achieving the best possible outcomes for survival and quality of life. Hindrances Obstacles to movement in a desired direction.

  3. ASSUMPTIONS Knowledge of what is right. Knowledge of the best/ appropriate time. Availability of appropriate infrastructure. The processes involved are patient friendly. Clear definition of the outcome measures. Quality of life considerations.

  4. HINDRANCES Knowledge Deficit. Competency Deficit. Infrastructure Deficit. Inadequate consideration for patients interests. Poor attitude to work.

  5. HINDRANCES (Continued) Undue politicization of issues. Tokenism vs quality considerations. Political Grandstanding ( I better pass my neighbour) Slogans and billboards as substitutes for credible programmes. Poor Expectations from patients

  6. HINDRANCES (CONTINUED) Inadequate advocacy/patient support activities. Poor audit by professional and regulatory agencies.
