
History of SEATO Graduate School of Engineering (1957-1960)
In the timeline from 1957 to 1960, significant milestones mark the establishment and expansion of the SEATO Graduate School of Engineering. Initiated by H.E. Mr. Pote Sarasin in 1957, the school received royal decree from His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand in 1959. With Prof. Thomas H. Evans as the Dean by 1959, the school introduced majors in Highway Engineering and Structural Engineering in 1960, becoming a pioneering institution in Southeast Asia for engineering education.

1957 H.E. Mr. Pote Sarasin, Secretary-General of the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO), proposes a regional graduate school of engineering, with principal financial support to be provided by SEATO member countries.
1959 His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand signs the Royal Decree establishing the SEATO Graduate School of Engineering on the campus of Chulalongkorn University. It is the first graduate school in Southeast Asia to offer graduate degrees in engineering.
1959 Prof. Thomas H. Evans becomes Dean of the SEATO Graduate School.
1960 The School s expands its curricula to include majors in Highway Engineering and Structural Engineering.
