Honors Biology Course Overview
This course prepares students for the New York State Living Environment Regents Exam and the SAT Subject Test in Biology. Students will have double period labs every other day and will use the Biology textbook by Miller and Levine, accessible online. Daily materials include handouts, notes, and optional colored pencils. The absent policy requires students to make up missed work promptly. Grading is based on various assessments, and the overall grade includes quarterly averages, final exam scores, Honors Final Exam, and Regents Exam. Students must complete 1200 minutes of passing lab work to take the Regents Exam in June.

Course Description Goal of this course is to prepare students for the New York State Living Environment Regents Exam To introduce the students to the subject matter covered on the SAT Subject Test in Biology Double period lab every other day
Textbook Biology: Miller and Levine; this book is also online Students will be given a log in to access the e- book
Daily Materials Every day each student must have the following in class: content handout and notes pen or pencil Optional: personal set of colored pencils and Kleenex
Absent Policy If a student is absent, it is the responsibility of that student to make up any missed work as soon as possible. If a student knows in advance that they will miss school because of a family or medical matter, please notify me by email and I will try to copy the materials before the absence occurs. Please check Ed-line for chapter notes and links.
Grading Policy Grades will be based on a variety of assessments including, but not limited to, homework, laboratory work and reports, tests, quizzes, assigned readings, and projects Total points earned divided by total points possible multiplied by 100.
The overall grade for the course will be calculated as follows: Final Average = 1st Quarter - 20% 2nd Quarter - 20% 3rd Quarter - 20% 4th Quarter - 20% Final Exam - 20% Honors Final Exam 25% Regents Exam 75%
Required Lab Minutes Each student must have 1200 minutes of completed and passing lab work in their folder in order to take the regents examination in June. In order for the lab to count towards the 1200 minutes, the lab report must receive a passing grade of 65% or better
Homework If students are not given an assignment, they are still expected to study their notes and/or reread the chapter. If students miss class time due to music department lessons, they need to make up the classwork and pick up any homework assigned that day.

SAT Subject Biology Exam This is not a requirement of the course. This is an optional exam and does not factor into the course grade. To learn more about this exam, to register and to view practice questions, go to www.collegeboard.com. It is recommended that students get the Kaplan or Princeton Review SAT Biology Content book(s) to help prepare for the exam. Some colleges require SAT Subject Biology Exams when applying
Extra Help and Biology Extra Help Extra help is available. I will announce my availability for each week. I have no set days that I stay after. I will be in room 2324. Please tell me ahead of time if you would like to meet with me.
