  1. Welcome to Honors Geometry Mr. Montano

  2. Mr. Montano Originally from NM Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from UNM Masters in Natural Science(STEM) from ASU 23rd year teaching Mathematics 13th year teaching at CUSD 5th year at ACP-Erie My wife is a teacher at Carlson Elementary We have a son named Jude - 10 and a daughter named Quinn - 7 Room: C103 Phone: (480) 424-8043 Email: montano.robert@cusd80.com Website: http://cusd80.com/Domain/4239 Check my website for weekly topics, homework assignments and weekly assessments. Office hours : Thursday s 2:45 to 3:30pm in C103 and by appointment during success time

  3. Supplies! 3 Binder (for all classes) with dividers in a math section for: Warm-Ups Returned work A GRAPH composition book. Loose leaf notebook paper Pencils and erasers Calculator: TI-83 or higher

  4. Geometry Tools Protractor Smaller size is actually better Ruler Metric and Standard Units Compass AVOID flat stamped out compasses If possible, get a compass that can be tightened as needed.

  5. Textbook Geometry (AGA Series) Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Online Textbook Online Resources Link: https://my.hrw.com/dashboard/home

  6. Grading Semester Cumulative Grade: 80% - Assessments (tests and quizzes) The semester grades are what appear on transcripts 10% - Weekly Warm-Ups 10% - Homework Semester Grades: 80/20 80% - Semester Cumulative Grade 20% Semester Final

  7. Warm-Ups Warm-Up sheets will be given out each Monday and collected on Friday. Select problems will be graded for accuracy and this grade will reflect 10% of the cumulative grade. Students must show all work to receive credit. The purpose of the warm-up is to both reinforce current material and review relevant past material. Students should work on the warm-up problems each day at the beginning of class and be done in a timely manner.

  8. Homework Homework is meant to be a meaningful extension of the concepts covered in class. The problems assigned are meant to give students additional practice in order to help them master the mathematical concepts. Students are asked to do the homework assignments and then bring in any questions the next day for discussion. Homework in this class is not intended to take more than half an hour per night, nor should it prevent students from participating in other activities.

  9. Homework Grade Homework will be assigned most nights and will be due the next day. Students will be given appropriate points based on completion. These points will make up the homework grade which is 10% of the cumulative grade.

  10. Assessments Unit Tests: Tests are given at the end of each unit. Tests are designed to last the entire 55-minute period. Unless pre-arranged, and for acceptable reasoning, no extra time will be allowed Quizzes: Quizzes will be given at the end of most weeks.

  11. Assessment Corrections Students will be allowed to do corrections on all assessments. Quiz corrections can be done at home or at school. Test corrections must be done after school on site. Students will be required to redo any missed problem, showing all work, and writing a brief explanation of went wrong or why the problem was missed. Students can receive 1/3 of the missed points on quizzes and the missed points on tests.

  12. The Classroom It is my goal to create an atmosphere where students collaborate and exchange ideas in order to solve problems. I believe in utilizing Mathematical Practices in which students make sense of problems and persevere in solving them; construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others; model with mathematics; and attend to precision.
