HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE DUAL CREDIT COLLEGE NOW
WHAT IS DUAL CREDIT? Opportunity for high school students to take college level courses at their campus Academic core courses are transferable to Texas public universities Grades earned in a College Now class go on 2 transcripts. Your high school transcript and your HCC college transcript DC courses are college courses first and high school classes second. Students and teachers are required to follow all HCC policies ie. grading, academic honesty and attendance.
WHY TAKE DUAL CREDIT? DC courses are if you live in the HCC district! If you do not, courses will be $50 $25 free/reduced lunch. Students are required to buy textbooks for each DC course. Core DC courses transfer to all Texas public universities and many private colleges. They may also be accepted at out of state institutions. DC is weighted with an additional 5 points. Prepares you for what college will be like!
CLASSES TO BE OFFERED AT ELKINS English 4 125 spots earn 6 credits US History 90 spots earn 6 credits College Algebra 90 spots earn 3 credits This math class is for students NOT going into a STEM or medical program in college
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BE ABLE TO TAKE A DUAL CREDIT CLASS? Students must meet TSI requirements for dual credit EOC English 2 minimum score of 4000 (Any English based course) EOC Algebra 1 minimum score of 4000 (Any math based course) SAT a minimum of 480 verbal and 530 math ACT 23 composite with a 19 in the English section and 19 math section PSAT minimum of 460 verbal and 510 math If students don t meet these requirements they may test at HCC to determine if they meet TSI or college readiness standards
HOW DO I GET STARTED? APPLY TO HCC Hccs.edu Click on Get Started at bottom of screen Then Dual Credit Step 1: Complete your application click start application On-line admission page click Credit You will be redirected to Apply Texas - complete the application here. It will ask you to select a 2 or 4 year school you must select 2 year - HCC You will need SSN and DOB to continue be SURE it is correct! If you do not have a SSN let Ms Powis know you can still take the class!
When you complete the registration, you will receive a 9 digit ID# called a W# via email within 24-48 hours from HCC. You must email this # to Ms Powis no later than April 16 be eligible for the class. This is a HARD deadline set by HCC and there are no exceptions. Once you email Ms Powis you will need to submit the signed waiver form. This makes your part complete and you have your spot, unless you need to test. Please be aware that the DC classes are capped by HCC and there are limited spots. If you do not get your part done and sent to Ms Powis by 4/16th or EARLIER, you will lose out on this opportunity! CAN I DROP A COLLEGE NOW CLASS? Yes, but it must be before the first day of class or a W (withdrawal) will appear on your college transcript. You have only 6 total W s in your entire college career.
