Becoming a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) involves meeting specific certification requirements and demonstrating the capacity to own, develop, or sponsor housing projects. This includes being a nonprofit organization, having tax-exempt status, conforming to financial accountability standards, and having a history of serving the community. CHDOs play a vital role in affordable housing initiatives, with set-asides in programs like the HOME Investment Partnerships Program.
