4 Effort Commitment Effort Commitment Actual effort may/is expected to vary through the life of the award. PI is expected to have some effort throughout the award If none is specified or PI effort in unallowable in the proposal to the sponsor or in the internal budget supporting the costs, some minimal amount needs to be managed. This would then be considered cost share salary support which requires Department Chair approval.

10 Indirect Cost Rate/F&A Rate Indirect Cost Rate/F&A Rate It is key to search the RFA to look at the allowable Indirect Cost Rate. Any deviance below the University of Florida negotiated IDC rate requires leadership approval. Indirect cost in some funding opportunities can be excluded from primary budget direct costs, if indicated in RFA. Check within the RFA for Indirect or Direct costs that are not allowable on specific categories

The budget justification must be no more than three pages per proposal. The amounts for each budget line item requested must be documented and justified in the budget justification as specified below. For proposals that contain a subaward(s), each subaward must include a separate budget justification of no more than three pages. The proposal may request funds under any of the categories listed so long as the item and amount are considered necessary, reasonable, allocable, and allowable. Amounts and expenses budgeted also must be consistent with the proposing organization's policies and procedures and cost accounting practices used in accumulating and reporting costs.
