What is a cognate? A cognate (cognado in Spanish,) are two words in two different languages that are spelled similarly, pronounced similarly, and have the same meaning (equal translation.) These words are related by descent from the same ancestral language. What is a noun? A noun is a person, place, thing, or idea.
