  2. doc.: IEEE 802.11-23/0225r0 Introduction The AP MLD power saving has been discussed in UHR SG due to the following factors [1] Power consumption increases with the number of links/APs Operators are committed to be net 0 carbon by 2040 Customers are concerned about their devices power consumption (both on health and economical point of view) We believe the AP MLD power save can be well supported by exploiting the multi-link operation (MLO). In this presentation, we further present an unscheduled AP power save solution. Submission Slide 2 Guogang Huang, Huawei Technologies Inc.

  3. doc.: IEEE 802.11-23/0225r0 Recap AP Power Management Scheduled AP power save Link Disablement defined in 11be TWT When the AP set the Responder PM Mode subfield to 1, then the AP might not be available outside TWT SPs. Cons. These scheduled power save mechanisms cannot well address the non-AP MLD s traffic requirement especially for non-periodic traffic. Similar to the current power save of both the STA and S1G AP, the author in [2] defines the AP power management mode as Active mode Power Save mode Doze state Awake state Submission Slide 3 Guogang Huang, Huawei Technologies Inc.

  4. doc.: IEEE 802.11-23/0225r0 Unscheduled AP MLD Power Save In order to save AP MLD power, the simplest way is to have only one link operating in the active mode and other links operating in the PS mode if the traffic load is low. All APs affiliated with the AP MLD shall announce the change on the AP power management mode in advance No need to send Beacon frame if an AP affiliated with an UHR AP MLD is in PS mode The active link can address the follow potential issues [2] Provide access service to the pre-EHT STA Provide Discovery, Active Probing, Association to EHT/UHR non- AP MLD Submission Slide 4 Guogang Huang, Huawei Technologies Inc.

  5. doc.: IEEE 802.11-23/0225r0 Unscheduled AP MLD Power save (Cont.) Once high throughput is needed, a non-AP MLD can send a request through the active link to wake up one or more affiliated APs in the PS mode with the doze state An affiliated AP in PS mode with the doze state shall enter the awake state after receiving a wakeup request for frame exchange The affiliated AP in PS mode with the awake state can switch back to the doze state if either of the following conditions is met There is no STA who operates on this link and sets the More Data subfield of the latest frame transmitted to 1 The channel is idle for a given time Submission Slide 5 Guogang Huang, Huawei Technologies Inc.

  6. doc.: IEEE 802.11-23/0225r0 Conclusions We have discussed an unscheduled AP MLD power save scheme Which can make a good trade-off between non-AP MLDs traffic requirement and AP MLD s power consumption Submission Slide 6 Guogang Huang, Huawei Technologies Inc.
