Digitally convergent media Video game consoles are an example of a digitally convergent device. You can surf the internet, access social media, stream films and a selection of TV content. You can upload content into cloud based servers. Cross media content helps maximise profits and also improve reach to new customers.
Production, Consumption and Distribution Production refers to all phases of designing, developing and making the product. Distribution refers to all processes linked to delivering the product through both a tangible (disc) and digital (Cloud Based) media and also relates to the marketing or promotion of the game. Explores the way in which the media text is used by audiences for pleasure but also explores the rise of user generated content across several platforms.
Initial distribution Minecraft didn t have the commercial backing of a mainstream publisher, didn t spend any money on advertising revenue and relied entirely on word of mouth between gamers and featured sites. Examples of these featured sites are : Penny Arcade web comic and Reddit, in order to generate interest amongst gamers. By January 2011 the beta version of the game had over one million purchases in just a month
Produced on Java After being a pc Java game, Minecraft has become a globally successful phenomenon across al consoles and hand-held devices. Minecraft has become a multi platform game which is not only just for PC gamers but also those who own a smartphone or consoles such as a PlayStation or Xbox. Recently Minecraft had been produced on Nintendo platforms of the switch, Nintendo WII, Nintendo Ds, 2Ds, 3Ds, 2Ds XL and 3Ds XL. This now opens up new markets of profitability and exposure to audience.
Recent technological change and media production, distribution and circulation Hard copies of the game were later released of the game in order to reduce piracy. Most players log in online Console versions were later established which allowed players to play on something other than PC. Less physical copies of Minecraft meant less money for Mojang.

Minecraft was made and developed using readily available open source software within the gaming community, The original Minecraft using Java gave it the advantage of being cross- platform. Other main stream games require entire teams of programmers.
